Where are springs connected to under whirlpool top loading washing machine

Not sure which spring you are talking about. The long one goes from back of tub down to the frame and you have 3 that connect around the outer tub.

I have a Samsung washer model number wf338aab/xaa my tub is off balance

All front-load washing machines have shock absorbers that are used to dampen the tub movement in the spin cycle. The shock absorbers or struts are attached to the base frame and to the outer tub and you will need to remove the front panel or the rear panel to access them. When shock absorbers weaken or become damaged, the machine will often make a loud banging sound during the spin cycle and if the symptom is not corrected, can lead to damage of other components. Inspect the shocks for signs of broken attachments, leaked fluids or a weakened dampening action and replace both shocks if worn. Remove power from the appliance before attempting this repair.

Some models of top-load washers use tub dampening straps to cushion the movement of the tub during the spin cycle. There are four straps attached to the top of the tub and to each corner of the cabinet

Also There are four suspension rods that suspend the tub and allow the tub to free float. If the suspension rods are noisy, there will be a squeaking noise during wash. You can fix this by putting bearing (lithium base) grease in the cup that each rod rests in. If it continues to squeal replace all four rods the cups come with the rods, replace them as well.

If your washer has a loud banging noise during spin the balance weight may be loose. This weight is to counter act the weight of the motor so you will find the weight directly behind the motor. Sometimes simply tightening the bolts will fix your issue but if the bolts are stripped out get some bolts slightly longer than the original bolt to allow you to put a locking nut on the bottom side of the mounting plate. If the weight is broken replace it.

Lastly Washer vibration can be caused by a broken counter balance spring. Ur washer may be equipped with one or more counter balance springs which help to absorb the natural movement of the spinning tub. If a counter balance spring fails the tub might lean in one direction more than another and it will shake and cause vibration.
By the way my advice is free cuz God is good!

My LG M#WM2277HB wont turn the drum. It started making bearing failure type noises a couple loads ago. I just pulled it out , removed the top/back and started it. the motor rotates cw and ccw but the drum...

Oh s***! If the motor turns but the drum does not, the drive shaft has broken loose from the three arms which attach it to the drum. (the part is called the "spider") To repair, remove bolt on end of shaft at center of motor. You may have to cut it with an angle grinder, but don't worry about that, because the shaft has to be replaced anyway. Remove motor rotor and stator. Remove washer front, drain hose, fill hose, shock absorbers, support springs, all wires attached to outer drum, and eventually the entire outer drum. Remove bolts between front and back halves of outer tub to allow removal of inner drum. Remove 6 bolts holding 3 arms of spider to back of inner drum. Re-assemble with new spider and new bolt for end of shaft. If you can do it in under two hours, give yourself a big pat on the back. This is about a 8.5 on a 1 - 10 difficulty scale for washer repair. Good luck Mike.

Wash machine shakes and bounces when operating with a full load.

you need to remove the control panel and 2 clips that hold the entire cover on then tilt cover toward you to remove outer cover then check the tub springs 3 of them if one broken it will be loose and bounce, also the drive block could be worn under the inner tub,the shipping straps or bolts need to be removed if the machine is new otherwise it will also bounce around

My front load washer's tub has dropped down on to the bottom of the washer

If you are talking about the entire assy. basket and outer tub your support springs have broken, they hold the weight of the tub and basket. For the entire assy. to be laying in the bottom it also had to have the shock absorbers come loose or break..Now if you are saying that the basket is loose inside the outer tub that's much worse than a broken tub support and most likely a rear tub half with bearing assy. You can easily remove the 3 screws on the back of the TOP slide toward the rear and look inside their should be 2 large springs 1 on the left and 1 on the right

Springs

in order the replace the springs on the outer tub no special tool required, just a little patience and finesse. thinking there are 6 springs? you need to hook them 2 to a hole on bottom of machine, i usually set them all up before starting except for one of the front ones. you use the front spring as your spring tool. with the spare spring youll be able to grab the spring and pull it up and into the hole in the tub, starting with back springs working froward. when its time to secure the final spring i usually use a length of cord kept in my tool bag for this reason.
