Kodak EasyShare Z730 Digital Camera Logo

Kodak Easyshare z730 - possible problem flexible flat cable. I had a recent problem with a stuck power/mode dial turning too far past the video mode. I was successful in carefully opening the camera and resetting the mode dial. No plastic parts had broken. But when assembling the camera, the camera would not power off when the dial turned to off. I removed the battery, reinserted the battery, but the camera would not power on. when I separated the front and back portions of the camera (as I had to reset the mode dial), the camera spontaneously powered on and off multiple times as I held one "half" of the camera in each hand. There appears to be a "flexible flat ribbon" with "sony" and a partial word "chem" along with "80c 60v VW-1". When the camera is fully assembled, this ribbon was in a folded position when manufactured. The fold is prominent when the camera is separated in the two "halves". At this point, there isn't much worse I can do as it appears I am unable to power on the camera reliably at all. If I COULD get a replacement ribbon cheap enough, can anyone tell me how to replace the flexible flat ribbon?

Update: I was able to reassemble the camera in a powered-on state. While the camera was powered on, I was able to switch modes, enter the menu and change menu features, change date and time, switch from auto to scene to video to manual modes, I could retract the lens by switching to "favorites". Once in favorites, I allowed the camera to time out and go on standby (as if it were off). I dialed the mode to auto and the camera came out of standby and operated. I then removed the battery to "power off" and reinserted the battery, but the camera would not power on. If it weren't for this last caveat, I could limp along with this until I was able to buy a new camera. Any thoughts?
    thanks

It's obviously a switch problem, not a ribbon (which controls the lcd screen) problem. Start doing your research to find that "perfect" camera. Read all the reviews to see what actual owners think in addition to the experts. Or......you can "limp along" until you get tired of that.

My kodak easyshare dx7630 will not power on or I don't know how, can you please tell me how

I found instructions online here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:YS5DhgIqJHEJ:resources.kodak.com/support/pdf/en/manuals/urg00230/DX7630_GLB_en.pdf+kodak+easyshare+dx7630&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&source=www.google.com
It says the following: While pressing the Mode dial lock, turn the Mode dial from Off to Auto .
The Power ring glows green. The camera screen turns on. The Ready light blinks green while the camera performs a self-check, then turns off when the camera is ready.
To turn off the camera, turn the Mode dial to off.
Hope that helps.

Have Kodak EasyShare Z730, how do i format for SDHC Card 4GB?

You don't. The Z730 works with MMC and SD cards, not with SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible. You need to use cards 2GB and smaller.

Kodak Z730 no longer uploads pictures to computer from Easyshare printer dock Series 3 or directly from camera to computer using USB cable

The problem that you describe indicates that your Kodak EasyShare software has somehow become corrupted. Uninstall the software (use the uninstall feature, not just delete) then download and install the current software from the kodak.com web site (this is a no-cost download). That should cure the problem, but if it doesn't I suggest that you contact Kodak customer service via their web site.

My Easy Share (Z730) is in the open position & will not close.

VERY COMMON WITH EASY SHARE. There are only a couple things you can really do. FIrst, try removing the memory card and try it. Than if that dosen't work. Try holding power button while gently wiggleing the zoom.

I have a Kodak Z730 camera and need to move photos mistakenly stored on my internal drive. How can I move them to my computer or sd card? My manual does not address this.

Set the camera's image storage location to internal memory, then select Copy>> from the playback menu.

It's in the "Copying pictures and videos" section under "Reviewing pictures and videos" in the manual.

Kodak EasyShare Z730 mode dial

Does the "unlock" button depress? When my dial seemed to freeze, or turn very hard, I lightly coated a small piece of newspaper with petroleum jelly (both sides) and slid it all around under the dial. This lubricated the plastic and made it turn freely. Good luck!

Mode Dial Stuck On Camera

Hey i had the same problem. Saw your post and none others. Finnaly i gave up looking and just started tearing my camera apart. My camera is a Kodac 7630 so the diss assembly may be a little different but with the removal of a half dozen screws i got to the inside of the dial. It didnt feel sticky but i took it apart any way and cleaned all the touching serfaces of the dial with rubbing alchohol and my problem is solved. took about 30 min and there was really no danger of harming the camera. Its amazing the just a little stickyness caused the problem i was having because i could push with all my might and the dian didnt budge. i thought a part was broken in there. i think this is because you allso have to push down to move the dial so a little tickyness combined with your downward presure makes it impossible to turn.
good luck
