I also have a WRT54GS, actually I purchased it as a gift for someone, and I can establish the Wireless connection but no internet connection. I have an older wireless router that works perfectly fine. Yes, it is disconnected while I test this newer one. The cable modem works just fine. I know it is not the cable modem per se. I have additionally tried cloning the MAC Address of the PC as others have suggested elsewhere in the even my cable provide is locking onto the mac address for 24 hours. This is weekend 3 of dealing with this without any luck. They've made it too difficult for even a software engineer to set up!

/no more xmas gifts that require installation!

What I hear you saying is that you want to establish a Wireless connection from the computer to the router in order to share the internet connection. Assuming the router is properly set up and other computers can access the internet with it already, you will then just need to open the HP Pavilion's Network connections and find the router in the list of wireless networks. A further assumption is that the wireless network will not be open, meaning that a password has been set for it. When you click to connect to the wireless network, it will ask for the password.

The internet is disconnecting that means the problem is with the router. you also said that the router is getting hot.
I think probably you can try to upgrade the firmware of the router.
Or if it is a new router then try to get it replaced from the store.

I have a new Macbook pro and when I attempt to set up a network I get a message that the connection is "timed out" I cannot seem to establish a network with either DLink or Lynksis Any suggestions?

Hi! Absolutely, the Router is OS independent. All you need is a computer with a properly configured Ethernet LAN adapter and a web browser to configure the Router. Any platform that supports Ethernet & TCP/IP is compatible with the router. You may need to provide additional hardware & software (i.e. Ethernet cards and/or software drivers) to ensure that all clients operate with the router.

By default of your mac computer it has already a buil-in LAN port same as other pc and it should be properly configured. just connect the cable from the mac lan port and the other end goes to your port 1 to 4 of the linksys or dlink router and it should give you an internet connection. if there is no internet access, pls check the ff:
1. Go to system preferences, network
2. It will pop up the network window
3. location set it to automatic
4. show - set it to built in ethernet
5. once you set it to built in on the lower portion it should set to tcp/ip and the ip address should show, once there is an ip address, you should get an internet connection, sabe or apply the settings
6. you are going to do the same thing if you are going to set the pc on a wireless connection.

if you have any querry pls feel to get in touch..

I wish to connect a WGT 624v3 wireless router to a laptop on Vist

Hello again! No problem at all, and thank you for the information. I'll do what I can to help.
If the plan is to make a wireless internet connection with the new laptop, I would usually split it into three stages:

1) Establish a wired connection to the internet
2) Connect wirelessly from the laptop
3) Secure the wireless connection

In this case it's worth trying to connect wirelessly straight away. This is because a wired connection seems to have been established already, with the old desktop.

So the first things to do are:
A) Make sure the router is connected to the modem;
B) Switch on the router and modem. There should be some comforting green lights displayed on the front of the router, including one that looks like a wireless beacon. That shows the wireless 'access point' in the router is functioning
C) Switch on the laptop. There may also be a switch on the laptop to enable the wireless connection: if so, switch it on.

When the laptop has fully booted up, see if there is a 'wireless networks' icon visible in the laptop screen Notification Area (bottom right). If not, try restarting the computer.

If there is an icon, floating the cursor over the icon may show a message saying 'wireless networks available' or similar. Click on the icon and your relative may see a screen with an option to 'view wireless networks', or similar (I'm an XP user, so hope you can interpret here). If so, one will be an unsecured connection - hers! She should be able to click to connect. I recommend being as close as possible to the router when first connecting.

If she cannot find her own network, or there is no icon to click, or the network has previously been secured - please let me/us know.

If everything works correctly the first time (!), your relative should now have an unsecured wireless connection to the internet. This is a good time to experiment with the placement of the router and the laptop, to ensure a good signal is received. However, it is NOT recommended to use an unsecured connection for long, and not at all for anything private. It is like leaving your personal information on the doorstep for all to read. A wired connection is, by contrast, secure.

If everything works to this point, I'm happy to help with securing the wireless connection. However, establishing any connection is the first step. So, please let me/us know if anything is not clear, or does not work as hoped. Good luck!

Can't connect to 3Com Office connect wireless from Apple Mac Pro

PPPoE connection is set up

1. Control Panel, double-click Network Connections. 2. Click the PPPoE connection under the Broadband group that you want to share, and then click Change settings of this connection under Network Tasks. 3. On the Advanced tab, click to select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box. 4. PPPoE connections behave in a similar way as do dial-up networking (DUN) connections, and you may want the connection to be automatically dialed when another computer on your network attempts to connect to the Internet. To do this, click to select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box. 5. If you want to allow other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, click to select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box. 6. Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, click the LAN (Local Area Network) connection that connects the computer that is sharing its PPPoE Internet connection to the other computers on your network.
