Your CMOS battery needs to be changed. When you start the computer you put the information in or it resets to a default value when you disconnect power that clears the CMOS memory as though it had never been turned on before. The CMOS battery is on the motherboard so you will have to open the machine up. It normally looks like a large watch battery a little larger than a nickel and a little thinner.

My desk top computer has booting problem

The F1 or F2 takes you into the BIOS setting.
The problem could be a flat BIOS battery and the Date & Time needs to be set to the current date & time.
Replacing the BIOS battery with a new one will fix this problem. When you insert the new battery go into the BIOS setting and set the Date & Time.

My desk top comp was purchased in 09, the last couple of months it has kept getting slower and slower, green screens will apper and I will have to restart the computer. this past week it has been...

Hi,

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot login to windows and

Go to 'Start' and then Run
write "msconfig" inside Run tab and press 'enter'
inside the 'System configuration utility' window click on 'startup' tab then uncheck all the applications except your current antivirus and press apply then 'ok' and then 'exit without restart' option.

Now right click My Computer and go to properties tab.
click 'Advanced' tab then under performance menu click on 'settings'
go to 'Advanced' click on 'change' and increase your virtual memory to 2048 in both spaces.
Now restart windows.

To quickly restart windows press CNTRL+ALt+DEL
inside task manager you will find all the open applications.
right click on each application and click on end process tree then ok

Close all your apps like this and you will find your windows a lot faster and now you can reboot or turn off your windows as usual from start button.

Next time you login to windows your issues will be resolved.

If you feel that my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

Date keeps resetting to 27.03.2011 I have tried unplugging, changing the date and going back to factory default and reinstalling but nothing seems to correct the problem therefore unable to use timer

Most DVR's don't have back up battery for holding setup data like your Computer. That means that you can never unplug or switch off the power supply completely. The clock runs off the mains supply so any interruption will make it revert back to factory settings. In other words you have to put it in standby mode when not in use to retain recording schedule / clock time etc.

The magnetron draws a lot of power and the mains may be dipping beneath an acceptable level, causing the panel to reset.
Check the supply cable size and any connections.

Power switching off randomly and requires date reset on PC

You are saying that after a power loss you have to set date again in BIOS? Probably you need to change the battery on the mainboard, disconnect the power cable and press the power on several times, so that not to drop the battery accidently and make a short circuit. You might have to reenter all the BIOS settings after that. And if the power is switching off, only for the PC, might be a defective PSU unit. Every unit after the power supply shouldn't reset the date.
