1 Answer

Tascam dp01 fx cd.. OOPS!!! Please help.

I was about to do some recording and setting up the Tascam. Accidentally, I plugged in the portastudio with my laptop power supply cord.
Now, when I try to power the portastudio up with the correct cord, I dont get any power, and here a buzzing noise from the power adaptor.
I am sick! Can someone help me with this!
I need this portastudio!
Thanks,
Abe

Depending on the voltage that your laptop uses, if that voltage exceeds the Tascam required voltage you might have burned out the Tascam power board. Not good. I know you don't want to replace the entire unit. Try contacting Tascam directly they might give your an alternative in just replacing the power assembly.

Hello my name is Frank .I would like to know how to hookup mic with phantom power.Tascam dp01

Unless you have the FX model, there is no Phantom built in. You will need to get an external Phantom Power Supply, such as this one by Audio Technica http://www.zzounds.com/item--DAVAT8801

Unfortunately it's pretty much impossible to get a recording to sound like anything produced commercially these days without using lots of compression. Your burned CD problems might be the result of a faulty burner on your DP01-FX/CD. I have a 2488 and I still export all my mastered songs as wav files and burn them onto disc using my PC just because of the flexibility on the PC and you can control settings better which can cause disc burning problems (not to mention that the burner is newer and faster on my PC).

If you don't want to work on a PC you could look into replacing the burner in your Tascam. It is similar to replacing a PC's burner and the either the Tascam site and/or the Tascam Forum should be able to provide you with the specs and a list of compatible CD burners.

To get the final product to sound louder you could invest in an external compressor (a good used one should run you less than $100). You'll have to use the DP01's send loops to route a bounce of the stereo mix out to the compressor and then route the result back into the DP01 inputs and record on a couple of free tracks.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

DP-01FX/CD Problem

nslo, tell him to try replacing the power supply first, power supplys burn up ALL the time, as long as the plug fits and it has a rating of equal or greater amperage, same voltage, equal to or greater watts then it will work. Those variable voltage multi plug ones they sell at k-mart work but I've never had one that lasted long.

Tascam Portastudio DP-1FX/CD When I turn it on I get this message. Err: 12 Please PWR OFF

This is basically an error message which indicates that the Tascam timed out while waiting for the drive to spin up. Usually an issue with the drive motor not getting the correct amount of power.

Primary suspect is usually the power adapter.

Check to find out the size of the active FAT partition. You may have a 'less than optimum' amount of memory left in that partition. Switch to another partition and see if you can record in that one.

Here's a link to a forum where someone else encountered the same error. Seems it was due to running out of disc space in that instance.
