Take out the memory chip and push the little tab down...or up. The opposite direction its in. If you look on the side edge of the chip you'll see a little **** next to a small tab (usually light blue, maibe red, might even be black). Once you moved it (up or down) you'll notice the little **** is now covered by the tab and there is a new **** where the tab was (basically the **** is now on the opposite side of the tab).
If there is no **** don't worry, some are designed different. If the **** is visible you can delete pics, if it's covered by the tab then it is protected so you can't delete any (or vise versa).

How can i get my Nikon Coolpix L14 to show up as a drive letter?

The camera is not a full card reader. You can use it to copy pictures, but it won't let you recover files. You need to use a separate card reader, either built-in to your computer or attached to a USB port.

Computer wont read Nikon Coolpix Camera

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Nikon Transfer.

My nikon coolpix L20/L19 won't let me delete some pictures it reads write protection. How can i fix it?

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My Nikon Coolpix s230 flash won't work. It just blinks red in the lower right hand corner. I've tried all the settings and they all won't flash.

If there is a problem with the flash itself or the mainboard connection to the flash it will not charge. If the flash won't charge then it won't go off when you take a picture. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the flash with a good used one and see if that fixes it. If not, then you need to replace the mainboard. Good used parts can usually be found online for cheap; that auction website doesn't pay me to type their name, so I don't, sorry. Hope this helps!

How do I delete a protected image from my nikon coolpix s4000?

While viewing the picture, tap MENU then tap Protect on the menu (key icon).

Full details are in the "Protect" section of the manual (page 100 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

How do I remove "protected"

There would be an option called Protect/Unprotect in the Image Options. Choose the Unprotect option and delete it.
