I need to know how to replace the microwave door. The last advice told me to unplug the microwave and take out the screws on the side.
Problem is: this is an aobve the stove GE space saver microwave. It has no visible screw, and the inside of the glass on the door has a black mat around it. No scres are visible any where except those on the under side of the microwave which appear to be where the fan is. I am rather poor at visualizing things , so please be as specific as you can. KM

I now understand how to get the door off. However, I then have to take apart the door to place it in a new frame. How do I do that? The inside of the door has a black mat around the inner glass, but there are no visible screws ? thanks

  • kmaster105 Sep 21, 2008

No I have to take out the contents of the door and place it in a new frame that I have ordered. What I need to know, is whether I should pry off the black border around the glass and then unscrew the handle from the inside and other items, or whether I should do something else. In other words is the black border piece just a cover for the inside parts of the door ?

it took me several tries to figure out how to ask what I needed to do, and I am very grateful for the persistence of the advisers

What you have to do is open the door all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door comes right off the hinge pins. In most cases you will remove the top louver panel (right above the door).
Is just a matter of fitting a door ?. I hope this helps

the border piece is a cover for the inside of the door, you can unscrew the handle from inside

this a matter of removing handlle just lift slightly on the INNER door plastic around the glass and you will be able to access the door handle screws. There are a series of small grooves in the panel that you can use a small screwdriver to gently pry. You should not have to remove the entire panel. Just open it enough directly behind the door handle. Be careful when prying on the plastic.so becareful not to brake it.

    hope this helps

first you have to unplug the power cable then using a philips screw driver you have to open all the side screws and that will help you to remove the cover then you will be able to access the door clamp to remove and replace.

    All the best

Hi ,

There is a inner door trim on the inside of the microwave door that can come off to expose the screws for the handle. This trim is held in place by clips built into the trim, ( some older models may also have screws - look for them and remove before going any further ) the tabs on this trim can break easily but with a putty knife and some patience, the trim can be removed to get at the handle screws. See picture help. This trim can be pushed so the clips will "pop" back into place after the handle repair.

Need to replace the handle of a ge jvm1340, the top screw is easy, but the bottom screw seems unaccessible, can you help thanks, JG

There is a piece of trim on the inside of the door.
This trim is rectangular, about 1/2" wide, and goes around the outside of the glass. the trim has rounded corners. Take a knife and gently insert at a rounded corner, prying the trim out. Once you can put a finger behind the trim, you'll find it comes off easily, revealing the lower handle screw.

Front Plastic door is cracked and needs replacement.

Do not use a microwave with a cracked door as it could be emitting dangerous microwaves.

Sadly the cost of replacing the door would be more that the cost of a new microwave. Look for a good sale and treat yourself.

Sear's microwave falling apart

If this is and Over the Range micro, the exhaust fan needs to run ANYTIME the cooktop is on. They make things for quantity and not quality, so the plastic has little tolerance for heat. Running the fan, diminishes heat off the front of the unit. Also, the micro MUST be at leat 24" off the cooktop.

How to replace the whole door unit

This should be a fairly simple procedure. To replace most microwave oven doors, all you have to do is open the door as wide as it will open and then lift straight up. The door will come off the hinge mounting pins and lift off. Install the new door by holding it in the open position and aligning it properly on the hinge pins. NOTE: On some models, you may have to remove the upper trim above the door. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you have further questions.

Broken bezel/trim on door of GE Profile Spacemaker XL MICROWAVE.

You need to call GE customer care and order the trim you need. Make sure they will ship the replacement guide with the part. Before you do that however, carefully inspect the door to see if the old trim can be easily removed. This is important! You must determine that the door/gasket will not get out of alignment in the process. If this happens, dangerous microwave energy can escape.

Microwave door handle replacement

Solution for GE Spacemaker Ovens (my model is JVM1650BH05)

1- Remove door by lifting it out of hinges. You will need to remove grille first (2 set screws).
2- Carefully pry off the plastic inside door trim. Use a fine knife or putty knife. There are 10 tabs holding the trim from behind. It's OK if you break a tab! Try to pull out as straight as possible.
3- Once the trim is off, remove the 2 visible screws that hold the door handle. NOTE: There are 2 invisible screws so you are not done yet!
4- You now need to remove the metal ring that holds the latches. To do that, grab the metal ring and using your other hand, release each plastic tab one by one (same tabs as above).
5- Once the metal ring is loose, you will see 2 screws. Remove them if they are still there.
6- Position your new handle and attach using the first 2 screws.
7- Reposition the metal ring by re-snapping it in place. Install the other 2 screws.
8- Replace the plastic trim by snapping it back in place
9- Reinstall door and grille. Tell wife or hubby that you are a genius!

Bonus: use metal washers when screwing down the 2 first screws.
