Recovery of data from flash usb drive

I have purchased a kingston 32GB usb. I tried it by copying some data on it and then I tried to format it but it show no system to format when I use format command on it. But data can be deleted. I took some files on it in simple and RAR format but when I again tried to paste the data it shows following message and can't open the files on it but shows space ocupied by data on it through property.
"Please insert the last disk of the Multi-volume set and click Ok to continue"
how can I find my locked data I cant understand. pls help me.

    This message

"Please insert the last disk of the Multi-volume set and click Ok to continue"

means you have put something on the drive which is incomplete. When the drive is read by your computer, it delivers a checksum error because of a missing or incomplete file that is associated with something that you have put on the drive. You do not need to format the drive and you certainly would not want to do that if you have data on it because formatting will erase all your files!. Simply press ok several times and the insert last disk message will disappear. Then remove the files one by one by deleting them until the error no longer shows. You can then put each file back on the drive.

    Why does this happen?

Sometimes, if you have a power glitch when transferring files they can be corrupted especially if your computer is slow and you transfer a lot of files at the same time. It is best to transfer just a few files at a time.

Just remember that the error you are getting is nothing to do with your flash drive or the new data you are trying to paste or transfer. It is simply due to something that you tried to paste earlier. Never format any drive that has data on it unless you are happy to lose all the data and wipe the drive clean. Also, do not interrupt data as it is transferring to a flash drive. If you decide you want to cancel the transfer, wait until it has finished and then just delete it. Try not to stop it half way through.

Once transferred the data to the USB, it shows its correpted.

I recommend that you re-format the drive/device in the system you intend to use it in most.

If you format in the NT mode then your Windows 98 etc will not be able to read the data... this MAY be your problem?

If you are using NT see if it gives you the option to format in 32 bit mode? You MAY be able to use it with both operating systems then.

Hope this helps!

Files corrupted

Hi vaibhavmore8,

You should try formatting the device to see if that clears up the problem. If the format fails to run then the device is bad and needs to be replaced by the reseller or Kingston. If the format completes but doesn't help the problem then the problem is with the files you are copying not the USB drive.

Formatting a USB drive. It will delete all data. Right click on the drive letter and select format from the menu. Click on Start.
