The dealer is the only way to go - no one else can look up the unlock code. They look it up based on the VIN number of your car - and they usually charge an hour's labor to do it, which is ridiculous, but that's unfortunately how it goes. Call around to a few other VW and Audi dealers and see if you can find another one who'll do it for less. You may get lucky with that.

Hi i need the radio unlock code for a 1999 Audi A6 quattro please because my brother changed the battery after it died, and it reset the electrical system and we dont have the code for it. If you guys...

Hi,

Unfortunately I cannot supply you with a code but I can give you some very useful advice that will ensure you get your code direct from Audi for FREE!!

Not many people are aware of this and Audi Dealers often try to pull a stunt where they will charge you for this code. However..... read on.....

When your Audi was supplied new it came with a keycard with your radio details and the code for the radio embossed on it. On the back of that card it clearly states and I quote as near as I can to the actual wording.

"In the event that your codecard is lost - please contact your Audi Network dealer and Audi will provide the owner with the code for your radio for FREE"

I know that you may have purchased your car second hand and not from new but that is not the point. Audi themselves have printed this on the back of the keycards supplied with these cars and you are entitled to get the code for free.

What happens is that as changes of ownership occur the keycards get lost and subsequent owners are not aware of this promise from Audi printed on the back of the card. Audi dealers will try to charge but they are NOT entitled to do this. If you run into any bother quote their own terms back at them and demand that they satisfy their own terms. If they do not capitulate tell them you want to speak directly with head office and that you will take it up with trading standards.

You will get your code - mark my words!

You should also be aware that these Audis cannot be decoded via serial except by the Audi Network from their own database and there is absolutely no other way of getting the code unless you send the radio to a specialist decoding workshop which will also cost around £40.

So - stand your ground - explain that you know your rights and you will get your code for free. One of the very few manufacturers that will supply for free - the other being Honda. The rest all charge.

Let us know how you get on. If you have any problems I may have an Audi Codecard here that I could scan for you but rest assured this is their own language and promise.

Hope it helps. Please do leave a vote for the solution. Thanks for using FixYa

I'm just a Grandma who has survived cancer...but lost everything in the process. I was finally able to buy a car this weekend, (1998 audi Quattro). Yeah!!! However...the radio is stuck in...

well grandad here who has his daughter and some of the g/kids who are driving me nuts ,eastenders on the the Tv and then jerry springer and oprah ,g/kids on computer so i cannot get to answer any questions on my beloved fixya ,right on the radio are two holes either side i think on this model and what you need to do is a bit of wire bent in a U shape and then push this into the holes and the radio should then pull out ,now with the radio out take the chassis number and as its a becker radio it should show a number with BP in front of it this number is what i need to generate a code or look on the torrent sites for radio code package and download it ,iam still seeding so its a live torrent as in this package is all the programs you will need including grundig as it may be one of them ?? but i suspect its a becker ,look on the back of the sun visor as it may even be written on their by a previous owner or a mechanic like myself

Do you have the correct code? If you have the right code, try leaving the radio on for an hour or two, You should then be able to enter the correct code.

I have the code for my Audi (A6) Chorus Radio/Tape but need instructions to enter the code and activate the radio.

The Audi Chorus is made by BLAUPUNKT and the exact instructions will depend on the exact model.(This is a number beginning with 7*** *** *** found on a label on your radio casing )

It will be one of these

Get the VIN# from your vehicle and contact your nearest AUDI dealer. They will have your code on file and can give it to you over the phone.
