Question about 2wire 2700HG-B Router (2700HGB)
I have an issue with my router. How many times have you heard that before? :)
This might get lengthy, I'm a detailed writer.
I have 2wire 2700HG-B DSL Router/Modem. In the past I had 2 PC's (mine and a roomates) and my Xbox360 connected with no issues. The router is in my roomates bedroom with his PC connected by ethernet and the phone-line for the router. My PC and Xbox were connected wirelessly in another bedroom.
I brought my xbox home from a friends house last night. I had just been able to connect to his wireless network just fine, and like I said I never had any issues connecting to my network in the past. But last night my xbox could not acquire an IP address. I did the t/s steps listed, making sure one ip wasn't being used twice. I wasn't sure how to check if my DHCP was assigned properly so I assumed it was ok, without having any issues with people connecting wirelessly with their laptops here recently.
Keep in mind, both PCs were connected just fine. Wireless and ethernet. I went into my modem settings (http://192.168.1.254) and went into wireless settings. I figured I would restore to defaults and if nothing changed, change the settings back. After restoring the wireless settings to defaults my wireless PC lost connection. I couldn't access the router page anymore. This made sense if my wireless was looking for the previous router wireless settings.
At this time I didn't have my roomates password to login and see if his ethernet connection was still up. So I took the router in my room and connected it with an ethernet so I could change the wireless settings back. I did not have a phone-line in my room so all I was focused on was getting the wireless settings back to what they were. I called SBC tech support and changed the settings back to what they told me to.
At this time my roomate came home so I was able to take the router back to his room and hook everything up and checked his ethernet connection. Its working fine. However, even after changing my wireless settings to what SBC told me to my PC still will not connect wirelessly.
My PC sees the network, has full wireless strength but just like the xbox while attempting to connect it pauses at "Acquiring Network Address" and then fails. I've reinstalled my wireless card drivers. I did a system restore back to Thursday when everything was working properly, I've reset and rebooted my router multiple times. Still no luck.
I'm about to go by 100ft ethernet cables for a temp fix. Any ideas on what I can try next before calling in a pro?
Tried to remove the preferred networks on your computer. its under control panel, under wireless network connection properties.. ^^,

You need to check the wireless encryption for your 2wire modem..
