Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

My Alpine CDM 7871 produces no sound other than through the pre-amp outputs. As as a result the only sound I am receiving is from the sub-woofers in the trunk. None of the speakers within the cabin of the car are producing sound.

Your problem is the amplifier IC inside the unit. It is attached to the heat sink and soldered onto the main circuit board. If you have a soldering iron, solder, and solder wick (to remove solder from bad IC) you could do this repair pretty easy. You would need to disassemble the unit and remove the solder from the IC, then remove the IC from the heat sink and attach the new IC to the heat and put it back into the board and then solder all the pins of the new IC back onto the main board. After that, just put the unit back together just the way you took it apart. Just pay attention to where all the screws went and make sure you get them all back in the right places.

If you do not have the soldering equipment and are not comfortable with your soldering skills it would be better left to a service center to do this. Just about any service center would be able to do this repair for around $100. That should include the part and the labor. The price will depend on the service centers rates, but it is an easy repair that would require less than 1 hour of actual labor. Most shops will charge a minimum of 1 hour labor even if it only takes 15 minutes.

I have been repairing car audio equipment for over 18 years and can assure you that this is the problem you have, it is the typical symptoms for a bad amp IC.

Feel free to ask any other questions by just posting back on this thread.

Try differnt speakers, if they do not produce sound, amp channels may be blown and then you need to take it to a shop.

Do you plug the sub woofer outputs to another amp?

Yes, for best results. Your subwoofer should have a seperate amplifier because it has low pass filter that produces low frequency signals. It is done by connecting the sub woofer output to the input signal of the amplifier and then connecting the output signal to the subwoofer speaker terminals. Hope this helps.

hi,
Do you mean sub woofer. Then you can select any brands Active sub woofer ( active means built in amplifier) to connect with your system. They comes in different power (watts). you can use an active sub woofer with 100W output.
connect the sub woofer pre out of you amp to the pre input of sub woofer.
ok

I would like know whether a sony xplod subwoofer can be connected to my alpine car audio system! xplod sub woofer is 1100 watts.

Deffinitely but wired directly would be pointless, the Alpine's internal amp is way to weak to get the best out of the sub. You need an amp, minimum 300w and bridge the outputs to give all the power to sub preferably switched to low-pass (most amps will have a high / low pass switch)

Connect alpine 7874 to alpine powered sub

You need to run the RCA cables from the head unit to the sub for the audio signal, and possibly a turn on wire (the blue one on the back of the head unit), unless the sub has an automatic power feature.

The sub also needs power and ground wires attached, but those do not connect to the head unit. Power should be run directly from the battery with an inline fuse, and ground should go to the nearest good ground point (Trunk latch, seat bolt, etc).

No Sub Woofer Pre out output

I've got the same model and the pre out transistor needs to be replaced,
sometimes you can get it to work by unplugging the reciever and the pre out
then plug in the reciever and plug the pre out in a couple of times or so untill it comes on
or unplug the amp from the wall then plug in the pre out , turn on the reciever wait for sounds to come on then plug in the amp.
if that don't do it the pre out transistor needs to be replaced

Still no sub woofer output

SET THE CROSSOVER TO "L.P.F."POSITION AND SELECT THE LOWEST FREQUENCY AS THE CROSSOVER POINT.
[AN AMPLIFIER IS SUPPOSED TO "AMPLIFY"(TO INCREASE)ANY OUTPUT.]

TRY CHANGING THE POLARITY OF WIRES FROM AMPLIFIER TO SPEAKERS /SUBWOOFER.{it leads to cancellation of bass output.}
if u still have doubt contact me again.

Make Sure the remote wire is connected from the radio to the amp, its normally a blue wire. Here is a picture of what the setup should look like.
