Question about Audio Players & Recorders
Your problem is the amplifier IC inside the unit. It is attached to the heat sink and soldered onto the main circuit board. If you have a soldering iron, solder, and solder wick (to remove solder from bad IC) you could do this repair pretty easy. You would need to disassemble the unit and remove the solder from the IC, then remove the IC from the heat sink and attach the new IC to the heat and put it back into the board and then solder all the pins of the new IC back onto the main board. After that, just put the unit back together just the way you took it apart. Just pay attention to where all the screws went and make sure you get them all back in the right places.
If you do not have the soldering equipment and are not comfortable with your soldering skills it would be better left to a service center to do this. Just about any service center would be able to do this repair for around $100. That should include the part and the labor. The price will depend on the service centers rates, but it is an easy repair that would require less than 1 hour of actual labor. Most shops will charge a minimum of 1 hour labor even if it only takes 15 minutes.
I have been repairing car audio equipment for over 18 years and can assure you that this is the problem you have, it is the typical symptoms for a bad amp IC.
