Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

Hello I have called my service internet and they said it could be my network card---- I am connected to the internet then I am not then I am then not sometimes I be disconnect for hrs I have tried everything my internet service told me but still problems so could it be my network card and -- I am computer challenge so where is the darn thing in my computer thanks Hello, I having having the same problem that Hugoblue had. Starting during the summer, my laptop(Dell Inspiron 1501) wireless would not work for days at a time. Usually, I would just use the internet via an ethernet cable. However, two weeks ago, I started having problems with that as well. Now, whether I am at school, work, or at the house, I cannot use my wireless or the ethernet cable. If anyone has any ideas, please give me explicit instructions to follow because I do not want to leave any room for errors. Also, if it is possible to chat, I would greatly appreciate that.

    I found a net diagnostics tool on my computer and ran a scan. Apparently, my wireless card failed due to the incorrect IP address. Is it possible to change the IP address. If there is, please give me very detailed directions to follow. Thanks

    I'm sorry for replying to your advice so late. My next door neighbor was trying to help me as well.

    I booted the system in safe mode with networking and I was able to use the internet. Do I still need to do a total system restoration? I received this laptop as a birthday gift. My mom purchased it at a computer sale-and-show. This means that the laptop was upgraded before we bought it. Will I have to upgrade it to windows XP again if I do a total restore?

    Thank you for steps because I don't have a cd. I knew it could be done without one, but I didn't know how.

    If you had not given me those directions to boot my computer in safe mode, I don't know what I would have done. I had been trying to restore the system to an earlier date. But, it didn't work until tried it in safe mode. Now, my Internet works(ethanet and wireless), and I'm using my laptop right now. Again, thank you.

It can be a software or a hardware issue.
If you have XP try booting the system in Safe Mode with Networking with Wired Connection. Check if the Internet gets disconnected when you are in Safe Mode with Networking.
If not then it can be the network card.
You can try to restore the system to the Factory Settings. It will wipe out the information but if there is any spyware or Virsu it will be removed.

Here are the steps :
1. Power the computer on.
2. When the Dell screen appears press and hold the <Ctrl> key on the keyboard, press the <F11> key, then release them both at the same time.
3. The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears.
NOTE: Press the keys one time only. If you press them more than once, a keyboard error occurs and the process has to be initiated again.
4. Click the Restore button or press the <Tab> key to highlight Restore and press the <Enter> key.
5. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
6. Click the Confirm button or press the <Tab> key to highlight Confirm and press the <Enter> key.
7. The Progress window appears. Once the process is begun, Dell PC Restore usually takes only 8 to 10 minutes to complete.
8. When the restore is complete, the message the system recovery process was successful appears.
9. Click the Finish button or press the <Tab> key to highlight Finish and press the <Enter> key.
10. It will restart the system.

To restore the system to Windows Vista Factory Settinsg here are the steps -

1. Turn on the computer.
2. As the computer starts, press <F8> on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
3. Press the <Down Arrow> on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.
4. Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
5. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
7. In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
8. Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.
9. Click Finish to restart the system.

Out of 100 Cases only 5 - 6 notebooks will have a bad Network Card. It seems to me 955 software issue.

To attach a computer to the internet, you will need to have an internet connection in your home.
Your Dell inspiron desktop does not have a wireless connection card in it, unless you ordered that with your purchase. Unlike laptops, which mostly do have a Wifi card in it, to be more mobile.

My modem can not detect my lan card, i am using presario v3000, what maybe problem?

Greetings - I think you're not clear about how using the Internet works (not many people are - especially starting out).

The modem and the LAN card are TWO DIFFERENT ways of connecting to the Internet. The modem uses a regular phone line and the LAN card uses Ethernet (a different faster way of connecting to the Internet in which needs further hardware such as a cable or DSL modem from your ISP).

Or is it possible you're talking about connecting your LAN card to your cable or DSL modem?

If this is confusing to you please call the tech support of your Internet service provider and they should be able to walk you through getting connected..

Hello, For you to connect to internet your laptop must a wired network card or a wireless card.You can still connect using a modem connected to your PC.MAke sure you have the correct IP address,subnetmask,gateway address and DNS configured correctly.

Why do need to contact my network admin, or service provider. Doesn't make it very mobile?

If I understood correct, the computer is asking you to connect to the internet through a service provider. What this means is that you are not identified as having a real access to the internet.

You actually have three ways of connecting to the internet, when connecting from a laptop:
  1. with a wire, and then connecting it to a source of internet (like a modem)
  2. wireless - which means that you must have a wireless internet provider (WiFi). For example, a lot of the coffee shops have a WiFi access, which means that you can ask for a username and a password when you enter a coffee shop, and then may connect to the internet.
  3. a cellular card, which is provided usually by a cellular provider services. You can purchase it for a few bucks each month, and then you should be connected to the internet anywhere you want to (with a WiFi or without it)
A laptop is pretty mobile, but it depends where...

I can not get connected to router wrt54g

-->bypass the router first by connecting your modem directly to your pc using a network cable then try visiting some web site to check if you have internet connection if no go call your ISP but if you have internet connection try switching off your pc then redo and check your router config and connection.

-->if your connecting to your router through wireless try to check your wireless card if it is enabled. to check: go to start--->my network places--->view network connection. make sure the icon is enabled and connected.

1- Two Computers:

procedure for connecting to internet in pc:
<*install the sony ericsson pc suite using the cd that you got with the phone during the purchase.

click on the ->sony ericsson pc suite
->a window appears

click on ->the mobile networking wizard
you can see the status of the internet connection,speed .


call the customer care of your mobile network service provider they will tell the necessary procedure follow it.

*settings are required to connect to internet,some service providers send the settings directly to your phone,while some service providers tell the settings which you have to enter it directly or manually in the concerned profile

*make sure that you have selected the correct internet profile.

*if you are connecting the phone to computer,make sure you are able to browse in your phone first else internet cannot be accessed in your computer

Your network card or NIC is located inside your case in one of the PCI slots. It ic possible that your Network interface is built into your motherboard. Easiest way to tell which you have is to look at the back of your P.C. If your Internet line connects to your P.C. up by your usb ports then it's most likely on *********** board. If its lower in one of the the horizontal slots then it a separate card. In either case buying a new card and installing it may fix your problem. If you P.C. is under warranty take it to where you bought it and let them fix it. Installing the card is easy.
