Freezer is working, refrigerator is warm

You probably have a defrost issue with the freezer. Cold air is passed to the refrigerator section from the freezer, when the freezer does not defrost air flow to the refrigerator is eliminated causing the refrigerator to warm up. Check for icing on the back wall of the freezer. If no ice on back of freezer, check the damper assembly going to the refrigerator section.

I have a maytag fridge (freezer on bottom) the fridge is not very cold. freezer has started to get ice near the door opening in the last week.

if you see ice near the door the door muat not be closing all the way or the gasket could be ripped, ice will form where warm and cold air are mixing together, did you remove any of the shelves or baskets in the freezer or in the fridge?i've seen people clean out the fridge and the shelves weren't put back in correctly keeping the door open, check that or food packages that might be hitting the door, when the warm air gets in it usually freezes the air ducts, this is why the fridge is warm, all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and then it returns through other air ducts so if warm air is getting in it will freeze up the air ducts, you can try shutting down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and with a hair dryer hit the back inside wall of the freezer, blow the air up into the vent holes in the back wall,if you see water dripping down through the slots you have ice up in there, keep blowing the hot air up into the holes until you don't see any more water dripping,if you can remove the ice maker and remove the back inside wall of the freezer would be better.first check the freezer back wall to see if there's any frost or like snow on it,if so you could have a defrost problem, bad jazz board, this is the computer board that's behind your digital controls in the fridge section, bad defrost thermostat or heater, also do you mean the floor of the freezer has ice on it,you could have a blocked drain in the freezer.write back with more info and let me know what you find and hopefully i can help you better.

I have the refrig where the freezer is on the bottom, the bottom is working fine but the top is not getting cool.

a common problem with bottom mount freezers is the door gets left open, open the freezer door and look at the ceiling,is there ice on it and is there also frozen water droplets on the packages,if so the door was left open, you can shut the fridge down or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer, get a hair dryer and blow the hot air onto the back inside wall of the freezer mostly blow it into the open slots in the back wall,it will melt the ice that's in the air ducts, you'll see water dripping down, when it stops you can start the fridge and stick your hand in the top middle of the fridge section to feel if cold air is blowing in,all that it does is there's a fan in the freezer, all it does is blow the cold air from the freezer into the fridge section,if the door was open the warm air gets in and mixes with the cold air and it freezes up the air ducts and blocking them.if this isn't the problem open the freezer door, you should hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad fan motor, also put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's like frost or snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem,a bad defrost heater, defrost thermostat or timer or board depending what the model is,but most of the time the problem is behind the freezer inside wall,or depending on your model there could be a damper in the fridge section,if it's stuck closed then the cold air won't blow into the fridge section.so first open the freezer door, listen for the fan,if it's blowing, check for frozen water droplets and ice up on the ceiling near the light and on the food packages,if you see this the door was left open,if the fan isn't blowing most likely it could be bad, then check the back inside wall for frost or snow on it,if there's frost on the back wall you have a defrost problem, most likely it will be a bad defrost thermostat or heater, you'll need to check them with a maeter, hope this helps, next time send the model number so i can look up your machine.

FRT221RSH refrigerator warm...freezer cold...some frost on back of freezer wall, i popped off the small cover on the inside back wall of the freezer and the fan there is running...i vacuumed a little dust...

If you remove the entire back panel of the freezer section there is a evaporator (aluminum grill looks like a car radiator, contains r-134a, do not puncture or unit is ruined) Some frost on back freezer wall, means probably this entire grill is encased in frost, not allowing any air flow, which is how the entire refrigerator section is cooled, by air flow) The frost build up has to be removed,(got a hair dryer) you can unplug it for a couple of hours with the door open, overnight is better, this would fix the problem for a couple of weeks....Your automatic defrost is not working, there are three parts- the timer or control board, a heating element, and a bi-metal thermostat(often the problem)

You popped off the cover for the ice maker, you need to defrost the whole freezer section behind the back panel. Freezer cold means your compressor and freon are fine, you have a defrost problem with ice build up restricting air flow. A normal automatic defrost runs every 8 hours, three times a day, rule of thumb.....Sounds like you have a couple of weeks built up...........
hope this helps

Frigidaire White 16.5 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator (FRT17HB3)- The freezer works, the refridge portion is warm, it started last week ans seemed intermitten, we turned the cooling higher and it was fine...

Hi,

All of your cooling coils on this model are located in the freezer. If you are cold enough in the freezer your problem is air flow to the fresh food section.

- There is fan behind the back wall of the freezer, be sure that is running.

- Look for frost build up on the back wall of the freezer, if present we have a defrost problem

- look for the duct or channels between the floor and freezer and top of the refrigerator they could be blocked with ice, if so we have a drain problem.

Let me know what you find and I will help you from there.

What do I do? My refrigerator is warm but my freezer is cold.

you may have ice buildup in the evaporator ... i would take everything out (put food in insulated picnic baskets or someone elses refrigerater) .. then turn it off or unplug it over night with all doors open ... put down towels to catch any melting ice water .. empty ice tray ... the next day turn it back on and see if it doesnt cool properly ..it will take a few hours to stabilize ..

the problem likely was caused by a door being a little open for a long time ... that lets lots of moisture in which may freeze and accumulate on the evaporator .. the system cant recover from that unless you completely defrost it as above ... you might want to clean underneath it while you have it out of service .. vacuum/clean the coils and fan

Warm fridge, cold freezer

If frost in back wall of freezer it's not defrosting. This will keep cold air from getting to refig,. section. It may require a main board replacement. Or a defrost control replacement.

Frig not cold but freezer is ice maker not making much ice either

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
