The capacitors at the vertical stage must be faulty resulting in the above symptoms.

It seems the IR has gone out on our Toshiba 27AF44. We are told we need to provide a part number in order to have it fixed, but cannot find that number. Help??

The infrared sensor of your Toshiba Tv seems to be of normal type to which most of the colur tVs uses. You can check it with fitting an other number instead of the present one, and will work I thinks. It is a three terminal sensor, a standard remote sensor is used. Toshiba may printed some code of their own to it, that is all. OK.

Hi~Our toshiba 27af44 tv has white horizontal lines across the top 6" of the screen. It's been a constant problem only on this tv, not on our other one. The tv is almost 5 years old. Is it worth repairing...

you have some capacitors in the verticle circuit that are failing they would require replacement to correct this problem est 125 or so to repair
and probably still a worth while fix
but with the price wars for Holidays upon us you you may want to look and see what you can get with just a bit more money
i hopw this has helped

My Toshiba 27af44 wont turn on it has power Ive checked the fuse but it wont turn on

There are several, not very expensive, parts in the power supply that may have failed; some of them worth under a dollar. One does need some technical knowledge and two basic instruments to locate the failed part(s) however so the labor charge will be many times the parts cost.
I do recommend you have it repaired because when you decide to buy a flat-panel (LCD, plasma) type set, it will not likely last as long as your Toshiba has. The newer sets are being slapped together in China. I hope you have a surviving independent TV service shop in your area.

Horzontal lines across top 2" of screen on both my Toshiba TVs?

it's NOT the "tubes" (the glass picture tube you view) this is 90% of the time a capacitor in the vertical circuitry. A good TV tech can find and fix this issue for probably a little less than $100 per set at the most.

Toshiba tv making crackling noises

Is the sound coming from the speakers or from inside the tv, like an electrical arc? It could be the high voltage wire going to the picture tube. Do not attempt to test this yourself as there is many thousands of volts on that wire even when the tv is turned off. That wire attracts dirt that may be causing it to arc.

Crakling, snapping sound from back edge of circuit board. No burning smell. Sound continues after power is shut off and unplugged. Any suggestions?

If your flyback transformer has a pinhole in it, there will be snaps and flashes of light, but only when the set is on. If one of the parts in the primary circuits of the main power supply is arcing, it will stop once the plug is pulled from the wall. If you dim the lights in the room and take the back off, or look through the ventilation slots in the back, do you see any flashes of light, sparks or any type of arcing? You said the noise continues when the set if off and unplugged. Do you mean it keeps on going and going, or does it only continue for a second or two?
