Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

1 Answer

Webroot spy sweeper

  • It would not sweep. I reinstalled it and I was able to conduct a sweep. However when I tried to connect with the internet again, my computer froze. I had to uninstall Webroot in order to run my computer. I also have Trend anti-virus. Might there be a connection between these two?

I too have Trend PC Cillin ( anti-virus ) and Webroot Spy sweeper... I schedule sweeps at different times so there is no overlap or conflicts.. I am running windows XP Pro ( i do not like Vista... even thou I may not have any choice at some point) but I have not had any conflicts or lockups between them.. There may be some other underlying issue with your system... For what it's worth...

Hi Tarryrose... I was merely pointing out to you that I have a similar set up to yours and did not have any problem with accessing the internet. My point being is that there should not be any incompatability issues with them on your system and that there may be some other underlying system based problem with your computer ( Memory limitation or other).. Instead of using Spy Sweeper.. try downloadiing Adaware SE for home use from Lavasoft.. it is free and see if that works on your system.. http://www.lavasoft.com/ if it works for you without problems then use that instead of spy sweeper.. any anti spyware program is better than none.. Let me know how you make out...

    Good Luck

I was sweeping my computer and the sweep froze when nearly finished and I can't get it to turn off or do anything.

Try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, clicking task manager, then the processes tab and right click the one for Spy Sweeper and click end process. Then start the program again. If all else fails, try restarting your computer. If this happens every time you run the sweep, uninstall and reinstall the program.

Spy sweeper

In which place you click on the icon of sweep.
In the menu, on the screen or directly from the directory where you can find the sweep.

There are all kind of possibilities.

Problem with the registry.
File is moved
Version expired.

Probably the easiest way is to reinstall sweep.

Webroot spysweeper won't sweep

i had the same problem getting also an error message when i would log in about a valid definition file and go to program option page to update the definition file, after trying fixes from others i found one that said to reboot computer and put in safe mode, then open spy sweeper in safe mode, everything was in large print and nothing was turned on, so i rebooted the computer again and this time when the screen came up came up normally and not in safe mode and most of all there was no error message, my spy sweeper is now opened and now it is sweeping like it is suppose to do i don't know who was the person that posted the resolution but thanks it works so everyone try it.

It's your Webroot Spy Sweeper that's having problems - it may be related to your antivirus or firewall (try updating them), or if you're using Vista there's an incompatibility with the automatic update. Some of the possibilities can be found on Webroot's support site -

http://support.webroot.com/

Start with updating Spy Sweeper to the latest version (by manual update) and then branch out.

Spy Sweeper won't sweep

I have seen this problem a couple times. The only fix that seems to work is uninstalling Spysweeper and then reinstall it again. If you go to start>Programs>webroot you will see an uninstaller. Run that, reboot the computer, then reinstall again from your install disc.
