Re: diagram to change ribbon cartridge
The cartridge just snaps on, printing half letters may be caused by the ribbon being folded over on itself or not moving look at the ribbon toward a light you should see each letter clearly thru the ribbon

If you have moved the red lever from the front to thje right and it dosen't feed be sure the ribbon is to the L. of the slacker finger where the ribbon comes out of the cartridge if that is OK try some WD40 on thearm with the spiked driver on th end they do gum up and not engage the ribbon.
just pull up on the part of the ribbon cartridge closest to the printwheel, there is just a small clip to the right of center holding it in, and pull it out. when you install the new one make sure the ribbon advance knob on the ribbon is on the top left. you slide the rib. cart back into the ribbon plate (the place it sets on) untill it stops and the lugs on the bottom of the ribbon lock it into place and then push down on the front of the ribbon till it clicks into place. take a good look at it before you take it out so you can see shere it is supposed to go.
The correction tape cartridge "piggybacks" under the ribbon cartridge. Flip your black ribbon over, line up the front dges of the two ribbons and gently press down on the correction ribbon 'till the two wing tabs at the top are attached to the slots at the top of the black ribbon. Be sure to take up any slack in the ribbons BEFORE re- installing.
make sure you power on the typewriter and space bar carrier until middle of bar. flip open cover and put ribbon in rear end first then push front to lock. i have to then turn orange knob on top of ribbon cassette in direction that arrow points just to tighten ribbon and that usually will lock the ribbon cartridge if it lock with first push. also, the ribbon itself goes in front of the 2 guides that stick up higher than the rest. hope this helps. if not you can look at brother website under that model and look at manual. it shows you how.
Probably a gummy gummy solonoid or a broken plasyic cap on the solonoid plunger. Located just inside the L. printer frame under the ribbon, try some WD40 on the front & back of plunger if that dosen't work the cap will have to be replaced, they are available from us for 15.00 ibcluding shipping but a little tricky to install.
Hellooo. 2 thing come to mind you may check. First check the ribbon cartridge to see if it is empty..These are usually a one time ribbon...and has to be replaced when empty. 2nd make sure the cartridge is snapped in properly and seated, and also the printwheel lever must be snapped (pushed forward) in order for everything to be aligned. if the typewriter has a correction tape (white or clear) make sure it is not interfering with the ribbon. Lastly the ribbon drive may be broken or out of adjustment. a minor repair. Hope this helps... Squipps
