Question about Samsung HC-P4752W 47" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Thanks for help with samsung rear projection tv...more info

The picture is in good shape, so picture distortion is not an issue, and after the initial turning itself off for 20 min or so, it will stayon all day long 8-12+ hours.

Did not notice any bad transistors on the boards.

Also I have noticed that when it goes from being warm in the house to when the AC comes on it will shut off by itself.

Also when my daughter (2 years ol) jumps in front of it it will shut off.

So movement, temp change to cold, and initial turn on after night issome causes, hoping that this info might be able to determine the causea little better.

Thank you very much for the help!

Steve

IT sounds like you may have two small issues that may be interrelated the movement thing is definately
due to a dry joint(tech term for a bad solder joint) somewhere if you are comfortable with removing the main circuit boards turn them over and look at the tracks on the bottom with a powerful light look out for solder joints that are dull or have a ring in them you can rework the joint with a soldering iron and some flux core solder
the temparature part is odd to me 99% of the time its the other way around due to condensation but i will give it a shot it sounds like something is making a good connection when warm and expanded but when it cools and contracts it breaks it so look carefully around the large metal heatsinks start with the 4 power transistors near the lpt (dont forget the power regulator ic)check that the components attached to it are seated well and the joints are good.

there is a more risky way but it saves alot of time i used this sometimes in the field ....you take a can of compressed air turn it upside down so that it sprays out liquid air(away from hands and faces)..turn onthe set while the back is open wait for it to warm up 20 min or so then carefully spray the chilled air
on one component at a time untill the set tuns off
remember go slow one component at a time be careful

Picture distortion in your rear projection TV is because of failure of convergence out ICs that need to be replaced.
Qualified TV tech will fix it under $150 or $200 and if your are good in part soldering in circuit boards and have electronics knowledge then can replace by yourself.
Required ICs can be purchased from Part Store.

Rear projection - convex distortion / ghosting / expanding screen

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

I think you have a fault on the chroma board and on the picture frame board. If you can trace it yourself try these two locations otherwise call out a competant technician. hope this helps.

Having an issue with a Samsung HCP4752W rear projection hdtv...

if its on for that long its probably not a main capacitor issue a blown capacitor of that size would
have some distortion in its shape look for bulging at the top or bottom or fluid leaks at the base
a good capacitor looks like a small tin can
from the sound of it your problem is elsewhere if the picture is the picture is good then it may be a regulator or power transistor if the picture is distorted then its in your convergence circuit.

Can you post a picture of your picture so I can see the type of distortion youre having? It sounds like a convergence Issue, but a picture would help me acurately diagnose the problem. Please respond to this same post.
