Question about Televison & Video

4 Answers

Canon Elura 70 - It is stuck on telephoto. It won't go back to "regular" or wide angle. On the screen it seems that I get to to regular view, but when viewing the tape, it videos in telephoto so I don't get my whole image. When I view the tape, there is a little square on the bottom that goes from big to small - I know that isn't supposed to be there. I have combed the manual for a hint, but don't even know what to call this problem. It didn't do this the last time I recorded about 6 months ago. Help!! Joan

This is not a projection TV, it is a video recorder. If you know what the problem is, please provide with specific instructions on how to get it back to normal. I suspect something was reset or a button accidentally pushed to make it do this - at least that is what I hope.

All tapes. It seems to be a setting on the camera.

Any ideas on this?? I really need help as I need to use this video camera or get a new one. It is perfectly fine except for the telephoto feature going bonkers!

Auto control is not in the manual so I'd need specific instructions on how to set that.
Yet someone sent me to a discussion on this topic. They advised taking the unit and hitting it hard 2-3 times on a hand or soft book. You know what............ it worked.

    Thanks
Benimur. The first posted solution worked like a charm. I banged the
bottom of the camera hard on a book 3 times (what did I have to loose?)
and not only did it begin recording properly, but the things I recorded
on the faulty setting played fine as well. Weird stuff,
    really............

First you do is to take out the battery for 3 - 4 hours and put it back if " telephoto "is still there. If ever still there, then look for a small reset button and push it to reset the factory default setting..

Hope it may help you;

Change it to Automatic Control mode. That will make it work.

    Thanks

I had a similar problem with my 430 EXII flash recently and discovered that after using the flash head in a "bounce" orientation, where the zoom automatically sets itself to 50mm, It wouldn't go back to wide angle or telephoto when I folded it back into place. The problem was caused by a small piece of confetti preventing the head from fully resting in the forward position. Check to see if there is any debris caught in there.

I am having trouble photographing birds. Do I use the telephoto lens or the wide angle lens? I also have a macro lens for my Canon EOS 400D SLR Also what settings do I take them at. I have a tripod but the...

Use the telephoto lens.. wide angle will tend to distort the image and provide too much detail( distraction) around the object of interest. Bird pictures become more interesting when they are mainly of the bird. So when you look through the lens, zoom up to the bird to the point where you have it nicely framed with none of its parts outside of the frame.
Capture the whole image.

Wide angle lens is mainly used for scenery or where you want to take a group photo or panorama.

Zoom button is malfunctioning

tons of people w/ any canon elura series cameras including myself, with a canon elura 80 have the same zoom problem. It does not appear that canon has done anything to try to solve this mass problem with this series of cameras. Oddly enough the only way to solve this problem is to give it a tap and gentle hits near the zoom button to release what would seem to be a jam. Sorry that there's really no straight forward answer, but for now its the best i can give.

Image reduced by dark edges

An adapter tube has to flare out at the end or it will cut the corners off at the wide angle setting. Telephoto should be ok though.

Canon Elura 60 zooms by itself

Listen, I know it's a couple of years after this post but, try this: Remove cassette, push to close, close camera as if to use it, hold firmly in left hand, open hand slap it with your right hand once or twice, (I'm not joking) it worked the two times I had this problem. Problems with the zoom? Almost same process, push firmly on zoom button (to un-zoom) try doing this as your tapping it. These are last ditch efforts on an aging camera, it really has been a good one. I've put this poor thing through years of abuse, and it's held up pretty well. Good luck, Jeff S.

Nikon d50 and lens

I don't have this kind of camera myself, but on my Canon D350 there is a switch on the lens that sets manual/automatic focus. Mine is marked MF/AF ans is just a simple switch. Check to see if this might be the case on yours, too. Also check the contactts on the lens and camera to see if they might be dirty. And be very careful not to get any dust into your camera housing! -Chris
