Question about Canon PowerShot A410 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Pictures taking too long, and a lightning bolt symbol appears

I just changed the batteries of my camera, and there is still quite a delay when taking pictures. I am also having trouble with a flashing lightning bolt symbol. When this is flashing, the picture doesn't take....and I lose a great shot. There is about a 10 second delay when taking the picture. The lighting bolt looks like the flash, but I'm not sure what to do about it.

    it's a canon a410.

  • Bridgett30 Sep 20, 2008

It looks like the second one, and yes, it does flash after the 10 second delay, so I know I had flash on.

  • Bridgett30 Sep 20, 2008

    Yeah, I'm sure its off.

  • Bridgett30 Sep 20, 2008

I think it's okay now, I tried it last night, and it worked fine. thanks.

Hi, Could you please tell us what camera model this is?
I believe you replaced with new fully charged batteries.
Try changing the memory card. Old defective memory card will delay between shots.
If it still doesnt work, try updating the firmware of the camera.
Hope it helps...
regards,

    Hi,
thanks for letting us know the camera model.
Unfortunately there are no firmware updates for this camera model.

Lets see what else the problem might be ...

Does the lighting bolt look like this?
    http://usa.canon.com/app/images/service_...

    or like this
    http://usa.canon.com/app/images/service_...

After the 10 second delay, does it flash while taking the picture ?
If not, you may have to enable flash. If flash is disabled, the camera has to expose the object for more time to get enough light into it.

    Alright,
Lets start with the simplest idea...

Are you sure that the timer is off when you click?

If its on, you see this icon on the LCD screen:
    http://www.shortcourses.com/images/b4ch2...

If so, please disable it and try clicking pics.

    cheers,

  • Karthik P Sep 20, 2008

    Ok.
Can you try these for me please.

    Try1:
Turn off autofocus (I hope your camera has this feature...)
Click now and see if you still have 10 sec delay.

    Try2:
Turn off the flash and click.
Do you still see this 10 sec delay ?

Do you think the camera is trying to focus during that 10 second delay. (You can see this in the LCD screen during the delay)

If the flash icon is blinking for 10 seconds, it may mean that the camera is taking 10 secs to recharge the flash. This may be due to the battery charge/ quality.

Can you tell me what battery you are using in terms of mA and type (Ni-MH?)

Do you have this delay when you click in broad day light ?

    Thanks,

    you are welcome

    thanks,

How can I turn the flash off as when I take close up pictures the image is washed out?

Press the flash button (located above the display, marked with a lightning bolt) repeatedly to cycle through the various flash modes. To turn off the flash, select the lightning-bolt-in-a-circle-with-a-slash-through-it symbol.

For full details, refer to the "Flash shooting" section in the Reference Manual (page 48 in my copy).

How do I turn on the flash? I tried to buy a really simple camera and there's just too much 'stuff' on it. everything seems to be ok, just can't figure out how to make the flash work. ...

Easy. When the camera is in normal shooting mode, press the up button (marked with the symbol of a lightning bolt) until the symbol of a crossed out lightning bolt near the top left of the screen turns to an uncrossed lightning bolt symbol. that's it.
extra tips-
  • if you keep pressing the up button until the lightning bolt symbol has a letter A next to it, the camera will fire the flash only when it thinks it is necessary. this will keep your flash from firing in bright light and therefore save battery charge.
  • remember when you flipped through your math textbook in the first grade and it had "too much stuff on it"? you think its too much because you aren't used to it. don't be afraid to mess with the settings in order to learn how to use your camera best; you can never permanently damage a camera in changing its settings. the worst that could ever happen is losing all the photos in memory. if anything else goes wrong, you can always return the settings to what they were when you bought the cam in a few button presses (refer to the manual).
good luck and happy shooting!

My flash doesn't work. It pops up and the lightning bolt symbol appears in the shooting info, but it doesn't fire and the camera takes a long-exposure picture. I don't think it's the plastic collar...

i`m afraid the flash-bulb is broken, you still can use external flash such as SB 600, SB 800 or SB 900
another option is using tripod while taking pictures without flash, but you have to be patient and not recommend for moving objects

hope this advice help you with your problem

How do i set the flash on my vivitar cam. model 8025

Touch the lightning bolt icon in the function area until the flash icon and the letter A appears on the left side of the display. This activates the automatic flash.

Touch the lightning bolt icon again until the letter A disappears. This forces the manual flash mode.

Touch the lightning bolt icon again until the eyeball appears on the left side of the display. This activates the red-eye reduction feature.

To turn off the flash function touch the lightning bolt icon repeatedly until the no-flash symbol (lighting bolt in a circle with a line through it) appears on the left.

This is all described in the manual.

Can't get flash to work

• If you are taking pictures in low light (dim light) and the flash is required, the flash will operate

automatically. A lightning bolt appears on the LCD screen and blinks until the flash is ready.

• While holding the camera steady, press the shutter button to take a picture.

Hint: The flash works best when your picture subject is about 4 ft. - 7.5 ft. (1.22 m - 2.23 m)

from the camera.

• When the batteries are getting weak, the flash will not fully charge and the no flash lightning

bolt appears on the LCD screen. It's time for an adult to change the "AA" (LR6) batteries,

Hope this works!!!

No Flash

Is there a symbol on the screen of a lightning bolt in a circle with a diagonal line going through it? If so, your flash is turned off. If not, maybe the pictures you're trying to take don't require flash. Do they seem to coming out ok?

Panasonic DMC-FZ1 Flash still not working

If you have a lightning symbol followed by “A” in the upper left corner of display, try to change it to forced flash (only lightning symbol) or reduce iso settings because probably the camera “thinks” there’s sufficient light for the photo.
