It sounds like you might have ended a program titled explorer.exe. If this is true then when going to ctrl-alt-del in task manager under file > New task, type in explorer.exe. This should solve the problem. I hope this helps, if you have any further problems let me know.

Click Ctrl+Alt+Delto get to Task Manager. Hold the Ctrl key, plus Hold the Alt Key then hitthe Del key while holding them.Once the task manager opens Clcik the Processes tab then click the Image NameColumn heading on the left to get them in alphabetical order. Scroll downand look for explorer.exe. If you see it click it to highlight it thenclick End Process.

Next, click the FILE tab at the very top left of the window and select New Task(RUN). When the Create New Task window opens type explorer.exe and pressok. Your start menu, task bar and desktop icons will start appearing andpopulating. if not that means a virus has hidden your files and folders.

After bootup only Ease of Access and Shut Down buttons visible

Buttons where? Are you saying there are no icons on your desktop and the start menu is missing? If so try this: Click Ctrl+Alt+Del to get the task manager to come up. Press and Hold each key (Ctrl+Alt) until you hit the Del key, then you can release them.

When the task manager opens up click the Processes tab. You can click the Image Name column to get them in alphabetical order. Look for explore.exe, if you see it listed click it once to highlight it then click the End Process button at the bottom right portion of the task manager window.

Next click File at the very top portion of the task manager window on the left and select the option New Task (Run). When the Create New Task window opens type: explorer.exe and press OK. Your items will start populating and appearing on the desktop.

You need to run a virus scan because something might have caused this to happen.

On starting hp pavilion m7680y. I get: AOL error:

Open the Windows Task Manager (in WinXP) by pressing and holding down CTRL-ALT-DEL. In the Applications tab, highlight each program and click the End Task button. Once the Applications tab is empty, close the Windows Task Manager. Then, launch AOL again. (If you’re using an earlier OS, such as Windows 98, press CTRL-ALT-DEL to open the Close Program window, and close every program except Explorer and Systray.)

I have a pop up screen that says " the feature you are trying to use is on a CD_rom or other removal disk that is not available." I cannot exit this screen in any manner and I don't have a clue...

Hello,

That usually means that a feature you are trying to use isn't installed and need to copy files from a location that it doesn't have access to.. like a cd or a network location.

You may be able to close that screen by pressing Ctrl + Alt then tapping Del one time. This should bring up a close program window. You should see some reference to the program you have open at the time of the error. You can select that entry by single left clicking that entry and choosing End Now or End Task.

Be aware that you may need to repeat the Ctrl + Alt + Del process if it doesn't close after the first try.

NOTE:

Once you click the End Now or End Task that it will more than like close the program you have open so you will need to save your work before attempting this.

Thanks
