Question about HP Pavilion F1503 15" LCD Flat Panel Monitor
I have the same problem as several others. My screen remains dark;I can
make out very little information on screen. My f1503 montor is 4 years old.
I had the same problem, doing a research in the web i found that most of the causes was dry capacitors, this monitor has 6 blue capacitors in its AC/DC inverter card (you'll see these together with some kind of white grease), i tested all of them with a multimeter looking for resistence and found 3 with different readings than the other ones, so i went into the electronic shop and bought 3 new ones (same specs), i told the guy to change them for me due to i have not soldering skills. I just put back the AC / DC inverter board and boom!!!!, it works. 50 Pesos / 4 dollars fixed the problem, and i was just thinking to buy a new monitor.
How to get in to the inverter? (I know alot of expertice people know how to do it, but this process is for normal guys like me)
1. have to take out 2 screws at the back of the monitor, these are the ones holding the screen to the base arm, these screws are hiden by 2 rubber black seals. (this step might be jumped, but will give you better space to work)
2 with a flat small screwdriver and patience (the ones used to fix clocks), start taking the gray plastic frame apart, this is the one infrontwith the HP logos and the display controls logos, start from 1 corner and go down.
3 once the plastic cover is out, you will see the flat screen attached to the back black plastic cover, remove all the screws (7 or 8 do not count them).
4 pull the screen and place it in the table face down using a towel to prevent scratches, do not remove the conections from the flat screen to the boards.
5 remove the metal cover (the one is protecting the boards), it has 1 screw and you ll have to take the 2 nuts in the screen connector port (the one you use to plug the monitor cable). than push the cover down to release it from the wing locks.
6 once you remove the metal cover, you ll see 2 cards, the one at the right is the inverter, youwill se the 6 blue capacitors i am talking about. Also check the 2 varistors j22 at the front of the card.
7, if you do not have soldering skills, make somebody else with soldering skills to do it.
Hope this help, and sorry for my english.
Enjoy your repair.
