I bought this TV a year ago from Circuit City. I tried to tough out this problem but I finally took it in to a tech under partial warranty 2 months ago. Circuit City's freelance tech replaced the motherboard after telling his supervisor nothing was wrong with it. I'm out $100 that they won't give back and the problem persists, strong as ever. But... This thread isn't about avoiding Circuity City. Everyone with half a brain (damn me) already knows that.
I called and spoke to a Sony-certified tech and asked if perhaps it needs calibration or some sort of frequency adjustments. Showing further incompetence from the local TV repair community, she said there's nothing like that that can be adjusted. I don't feel like taking it in and having another tech screw me over and replace something that wasn't broken.
Wow, this is becoming a little long-winded :/ Anyway, I have chronic migraines and thus very sensitive eyes. All sorts of visual stimulus give me headaches but I don't expect it from a nearly new TV and I'm not willing to give up yet. It seems most (all?) tube TVs from the factory come uncalibrated and shakey. I can't play video games or read subtitles due to high-contrast parts of the image making the shakiness stand out.
A really expensive HD-TV is out of the question for a while and an LCD is definitely out as I can't stand them. They give me a migraine after viewing about 30 seconds. I have a laptop, too... That gets a lot of use :/ I have a great Diamontron-based CRT monitor and I wish they'd make tube TVs of such quality. There's no shake, perfect convergence and no warpage based on contrast like you have with most tube TVs, especially mine.
All that said, the image is really nice on the TV and I'd be willing to forgive the contrast distortions if the image wouldn't shake. I can't get any more detailed on the problem except that the image constantly bounces up and down and is especially noticeable with text and points of high contrast as opposed to DVDs where there's more motion and less contrast.
I'm getting really hopeless here as I feel I've wasted $400 on a TV and that I won't have a decent TV to watch until I get my degree in a couple years and have a higher income. Please help me :( Can this problem be fixed? Do I just need to find the right tech and bring in a PS2 and do a demonstration of the problem?
