Did you check the oil? Some engines have a low oil shut off switch to prevent the engine from running out of oil and burning themselves up. If it is low in oil and all the oil is up in the engine to lubricate, then the switch may be setting itself off. After a few minutes, the oil comes back down to satisfy the switch and it starts back up, but only till the switch is activated again. Might do it???
Hello; This is likely a carb problem or clogged fuel line or fuel filter if it has one. If it runs for awhile before cutting out, check your gas cap. They all have some sort of vent to let in air as the fuel level goes down. If the vent is clogged, the carb can only **** out the gas for seconds or a few minutes. john
let it warm up with choke closed manually after it starts to stall with choke closed open it and dont let it stall u can learn to play with the choke a little to get it to run right GOOD LUCK!
Drain the fuel or when you remove the float bowl bolt (also the main jet), then hold up on the float to keep the needle on the seat so gas won't go everywhere. When you have that brass bowl bolt off, clean it! Use nothing metal on it. Pay close attention to the small hole in the bottom and along the smooth unthreaded part at the other end. Use carb/choke cleaner to blast gum and dirt out of those very small fuel orifices. I recommend installing an inline fuel filter also. A shut off valve is recommended too, that way if the needle in the carb sticks open, the crankcase won't be polluted with gas. Usual symptoms on a clogged lawn mower main jet though, are after pushing primer bulb, engine runs about 3 seconds. Try the brass bolt cleaning and post back if needed.
I have the same problem. One time this happened and it restarted after a few hours and worked fine for 5 more cuts over a couple of months time. Now again it quit mid cut of my yard and would not restart. When trying to start it would fire for a few seconds and than shut off again. I wated a week to try it again and now it does nto fire at all. This is about a year old mower with only about 10-15 hours of total use.
You may want to check the gas cap to see if it clogged with dirt. If the gas cap is clear, you more than likely have a carburetor problem. If you need tips on carb. cleaning, feel free to ask.
