What are the clearance specs between ignition module and magnet?

I get no spark at plug


Hi joseph
To make sure you are getting spark at the spark plug, do this:
Remove your spark plug and check to be sure you are getting a bright blue spark at the spark plug.
You do this by grounding the plug on the head of the engine and pulling the crank rope...watching the plug for spark.
If you are getting a nice blue spark then skip A below and go to B.
A...If you do not get a nice blue spark then you may need to replace the electronic module.
Note: If you have to replace the module be sure to measure the position it is in and be sure to install it in the same position
Normally the clearance is around .10 thousandsands
Also write the measurement down on a piece of paper for later reference, this measurement is critical to starting of the engine later.
B...Also take some fine grit sandpaper (not emery) and lightly sand the flywheel where the magnet is located to clean any rust or corrosion from the magnet area.
You can also try to lightly sand the module metal face to increase the possibility of ignition of the old module before replacement.

i use a piece of a brown paper bag im sure theres some technical clearance but it works for me

How to set the ign. modualer on leaf blower


You have to set an "air-gap" on the ignition module between the legs of it and the magnets in the flywheel. Use a standard size business card as your "feeler gauge." Fold it in two. Place it in between the legs of the module and the flywheel. Turn the flywheel until the magnets line up with the coil legs and let the magnets draw the module into it. Tighten the hold down screws. Remove the business card. Your "air-gap" is now set at approximately .010" Closer is better, wider is not.

The air gap is set at 0.10, or a business card will work as a feeler gauge.

Weedeater 25cc electolux motor does not have spark


Make sure when you test for spark, you use a spark tester or at least ground the base of the plug to the engine when you use the pull start. A strong little blue spark should be present. The airgap between the coil and the flywheel may need to be adjusted. The specs are about .010-.016" or the thickness of a regular business card. You would have to loosen the two coil screws on the back of the engine's cylinder if you have checked and determined it actually needs adjusting. Covers will be have to removed to get to this location. Torx head screws hold everything on these together.

Starter cord is stuck. Will not retract. What do I do


I spent a lot of time, but I found that most of the problems with this starter rope etc, are caused by the starter assembly being too tightly mounted to the motor assembly causing drag on the rope mechanism.
I fixed the problem by adding spacer washers between the starter and the engine mount (two small washers on each of the 5 or 6 mounting bolts adding about 1/4 inch of clearance.
Now even my wife can start this machine..

My Blower dies after about 15 min. Then it will


I think its the ignition module. To test the module put 2 spark testers inline with each other and see if it will jump both.
If you dont have 2 testers then use it till it dies and try to start immediately with a prime. If it wont start then module is suspect.
Most manufacturers have lifetime warranty on thier modules ( I am unsure about MTD) so double check before you just go out and buy one.

I am replacing an ignition coil on a honda gx340 engine and I am not sure about the clearance needed between coil and flywheel


If you have a normal business card or a matchbook cover, that is just about perfect. Not a heavy cardboard one, but the normal heavy paper. Just put the card by the magnets on the flywheel, let the magnetic force pull the coil up to the business card, tighten the screws, pull out the card, and you are back in business.
