Try it on another computer. if it is able to work do a check disk on it. open up my computer -> right click on that drive -> properties -> then tools tab -> then check for errors. Make sure you check all boxes so it does a full scan to fix the hard drive.

Hi.. Seems your computer only has 1.1 capacity. You can not get 2.0 if your computer only has 1.1 capacity. Hank

Won't reconize DVD burner

Well, the CD ribon cable goes into the IDE 2 slot on the Mainboard and the furthest connector on the other end is the master, the second one closest to the board is the Slave connector. The CD drive has a jumper on the back between where the ribbon and the power connector go, on the case some where it should have a diagram showing the jumper setting to put it in as master or slave. Set it accordingly.

Same with Hard drives.

If the Hard drive has a diferent Cable like a SATA, then be sure to get a SATA as the new one.

Now the IDE cables may be bad check them for damage just to be on the safe side.

I believe that my maxtor external hard drive may have gotten password locked, it shows in my hardware properties, but won't reconize in windows.

it could also be a hardware issue.... i make alot of money from recovering data off maxtor drives that are not recognized by the bios or in windows.

Computer don't show icon for external hard drive when plugged in, but you can hear the computer reconize it when you plug it in.

right click on my computer desktop icon and select manage, you will be able to see the hard drive present in the listing and set it up, if not there is enough power to power it up but not enough to recognise the hardware, try a different usb port, it may be in a usb1.1 and it will need usb2.0 to work correctly

Failing to start windows. Could not access c-drive

Do you hear your hard drive spinning? You can take a screw driver & put the tool end carefully on you hard drive & the handle touching you ear. If its spining you will hear it.
Is it making any clicking sounds?
Try disconnecting it from the mother board & power then re-connect all connections.
Try booting up to a bootable software cd or if you have or can get a windows cd of your operating system that would be best.
Go into bios and see if it is reconized.
Have you changed or added any hardware such as roms or external drives?

My dell E510

Both of you could try going to control panel/add new hardware and follow it through. Most likely the second HD is still raw - not formatted -hence doesn't show because as far as windows is concerned it isn't there.

Try that first

My computer is about 5 years old. I bought a pny 4gb flash drive to save some info on. Someone told me that the computer does'nt reconize what kind device it is. I needed to know what kind of driver or...

If it is XP , usually it will detect the flash drive. If it is win98 you may require a driver for the flash drive.Give the model number of your drive. I Will try to help you to get the driver if your system is windows98/2000

Won't read dvd

i'd say that this is caused by whatever program was used to do the DVD backup..you'll need same program, to most likely unencrypt that data, no?
