Question about Acer AL1715 (Black, Silver) 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

AL1715 Acer this really is annoying

Ok here is my problem: some weeks ago my screen was getting black when my computer wasn't used for some hours (no, it is not screensaver I am not that dumb) and I had to resstart the scrren (and it only) so it would work again but days after days it would take more and more screen restart (by the little power button on the screen) before it works (shows the Acer thing and then works). But now I have to do it for HOURS (I am NOT kidding, to post this I restarted for 2hours and a half) before it works. I noticed something though, when it doesn't work it kindda does cause if you put it in daylight and you concentrate really hard you can see the wall paer of my deskop (or wathever you were on before it stopped working) but it is not visible enough to see the mouse lol. oh and I tried on another computer (not any response either same thing)

I'm afraid that it sounds like the monitor wont last much longer. It could be that the control board is failin and pixels are getting stuck, but it would be more economical to replace the monitor.

This is a low-end monitor and the image processor is failing. You will require a replacement but since the monitor is low-cost, it is cheaper to simply by a new one.

Try using a different refresh rate. I've found that when you change it down to 60 hertz that the issue usually goes away.

OSD problem on my Acer AL1715 17 in.

I had a simalar problem with my Dell 2001FP. The issue is that there is false triggering of the switch; you need to open the front panel, and remove the swictch from the circuit by: 1) analyze the circuitl; its usally pretty simple - a voltage drop circuit. 2) disable the switch by either removing it with a solder gun or, simply by using a sharp blade and cutting the PCB track leading it to it, as I did.(much easier - and reversible!) Fixed my problem.

Acer AL1715 17" LCD Monitor

Certain versions of the Acer AL1715 monitor had a problem with the VGA socket. Specifically, the plastic case around the socket was not wide enough. The plastic interfered with the plug and so the plug did not seat properly. I fixed several of these monitors by shaving off some of the plastic with a dremel mototool. A hand file would probably work as well. You have to remove the plastic back to do the job.
