Maytag Neptune MAH7500AWW Speed Indication Error - Won't spin up...

I have a MAH7500AWW Maytag front load washer. Anytime the machine goes to spin or tumble I get a Speed Indication error.

Wife has said that the machine hasn't been spinning clothes as dry as it normally does. I conducted the Motor & Motor Control test by pulling the JP4 connector from the motor control board, performing a system check, toggle motor control on and let it spin at 50 RPM. All seems to work well. A quick switch back to the system check shows the torque value going back to zero as it spins down but no RPM value. I suspect that is because the JP4 connector is removed.

Since the problem appears to be related to the inability of the machine to spin up to speed, I setup a custom spin cycle and entered Service Mode to watch the values. It goes correctly through the drain cycle and then starts to spin slowly at first. RPM and torque appear to rise correctly then when the rpm steps up quickly from about 85 rpm to roughly 150, all of a sudden the RPM goes to 0 and you see the torque value slowly return to zero as the spinning stops. Seems to me like it loses the tach signal as soon as it tries to ramp up to any speed high enough to spin dry.

As best I can tell the tach sensor must be built into the motor. I'm suspecting a faulty motor but would like another opinion. Would also appreciate suggestions of other tests I could try to confirm a faulty motor.

Schematic diagram in washer says 41: Loss of Tach Signal during door unlock sequence. I think this is just generated as a result of losing the tach signal during the cycle and when I exit the cycle (when the door unlock command is given) 41 is generated because the tach signal is still missing. In other words, I think the loss of tach during the cycle (as indicated on the touch screen diagnostics) is the cause of the spin shutdown and is the real problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I cannot solve this. I just wanted to post a couple of useful tips for anyone else out there who happens to be diagnosing their MAH7500AWW.

1. You can put the washing machine into service mode by pressing the <back> and <help> buttons for 5 seconds and then releasing.
2. There is a large folded troubleshooting schematic located under the top console. You have to remove a few screws and lift it up to pull it out.

My washer just gave me the same error.. a Motor Speed error. I called Maytag and they told me it sounded like the motor was bad and the replacement motor is about $200 + the service call on top of that! Yikes!! I really wanted a better solution, as I can't afford that type of repair (nor would I spend that much on a repair to a 9yr old machine). I am having the same problem, I checked the tach signal on jp2, seemed to be fine. i was getting a signal from the tach when it tries to spin up, then the lcd gets up to about 130RPM, then shows zero rpm (when the tach is above 250Hz) the tach signal gets up to about 500Hz and the motor spins down...
when the tach gets back down below 250Hz, the lcd reports an rpm again (about 130RPM) which slows down to zero as the motor stops

I might contact maytag again. We called them when the problem first appeared, they told us to contact this refrigeration company to get it repaired, the guy came over, said it was the lock mechanism, came back, replaced it and found it wasn't the lock mechanism. a day later he called and said it was probably the main board! clueless...
I think it might be a software issue, which replacing the main board will probably fix, $300 plus installation is pretty pricey for a software update.. unfortunately I don't think it will be very easy to get the latest update myself.

These machines are "known" to have computer board problems. When replacing the comp. board it is best to replace the motor as well because you can buy them in a kit toghter. (part# 22004473) cost around $150.00 ... GOODLUCK

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers No Spin Problem

A class suit was filed in the State of Illinois, USA and then later on won against Maytag in 2004 due to the high failure rate of the wax motor used in the door lock mechanism of their Neptune Front Load Washers. The wax motor is used to activate the door lock switch by extending its shaft when a voltage from the machine control is applied across its terminals. Its failure then leads to the breaking down of components in the expensive machine control board. This is the fact that angered the customers which led to the filing of the class suit.

The obvious symptom of a failed wax motor is the inability of the washer to advance to the spin cycle and the door lock lamp is not turned on. The washer stops momentarily at the end of the wash cycle then continue to tumble as the machine control checks the activation of the door lock switch. The control will not allow a spin speed higher than 51 revolutions per minute (RPM) unless the door lock switch is activated by the wax motor. It is a safety feature of the washer to prevent accident due to accidental opening of the washer door during a high speed spin.

Customers who purchased the Neptune Front Load Washers in the USA after April 1, 1997 and before August 9, 2004 are Class members and eligible for the repair reimbursement, replacement cost, or purchase certificate depending on the length of service of the machine. you have mold built up around the door boot. you need to buy a package of a product called AFRESH (3 tablets in it). follow the directions on the package. use one a month for maintenance on this machine. also, make sure you do one or two hot washes per month to keep the hoses cleaned from build up of soap and or fabric softener. leave the door open a little bit after each load.

check the board
is the resister thats burning r-11
if it is you need to change the wax motor lock as well
its the door lock found where the door latch goes in
ive included the part number 22002119
they should have told you

Maytag neptune mah5500b washer will not go into final spin

most likely a code is stored in the computer as it probably encountered an error getting up to speed. this would probably be in the motor control board on bottom not the main control on top. main control will have the error though. tech sheet should be located in base of machine on side wall remove rear panel and look to left. this will tell how to access diagnostic mode and retrieve code.

Maytag neptune won;t rinse

Check latch mechanism for alignment. Often operation of machine loosens latch mechanism causing internal switch for "door open (or ajar)" preventing rinse or spin cycle. Opening and closing door presses latch mechanism closing internal switch allowing for continue processing to rinse or spin cycles.
