Ok to start. pull the top cover off two screws. front first back towards motor second it should lift top. then you have tranny top first take round center 3 screws holding dome bearing retainer down . Take that nut off. Holding bottom of planitary will help get the nut of its self locking. Take 4 screws on the big round top cover off. then the 4 on the two little shafts. then the two nuts on each little shaft. one may be a snap ring. I usually use a pair of channe locks and uses the front grease plug hole and lift the cover up and off you have to wiggle it. be carful there is a threaded scre coming up there don.t losen or mess with it. or it it under the top with pliers. its just a grease deflector. somtiems it will not come off is so write me I have a way to reedy that. when it comes off. do not remove any of the big gears on top the center main shaft look at the little one betwwin main and the one clsest to the motor chack the top gear if not broke pull it straige up and off the shaft. it has a samml key to lock it to shaft. this shears alot. and old style gears break in half. start there if thats not it give me ser# and ML# so I can better tell what gears you have there are differant ones. its been out over 45 years. If that top gear isd not it get back to me. with the numbers

Beatriz, I looked through the entire manual, it shows no reverse option. Did you just get the mixer or did you have it repaired. It seams the mixer is either wired wrong or the gears that rotate the mixer were not assembled correctly.
Check the attached link, manual, instruction and guides, Good luck

Hello, my Hobart AE200 seeps oil from the front panel. How do I top it up? How often does the oil need replacing and with what type of oil? Thanks

It's not oil in the A200, it's #2 weight grease. Although when it gets old enough it can break down far enough to basically become oil (either that or someone put oil in it previously). There are a number of answers written on fixya.com explaining how to disassemble the transmission and change the grease. Fill with 36 ounces #2 grease. FYI : disassembling the transmission and changing the grease is a very messy task and one can VERY easily reassemble the transmission incorrectly, so consider bringing the mixer to Hobart to have the job done.

How do I empty and then refill the grease in the gear box of my 30 quart Hobart mixer

Transmission has to be somewhat disassembled, grease removed, lower seal should be replaced and then grease added and reassembled. Not that easy to do. Check www.hobartservice.com for your local Hobart office.

Hobart a200 will run just fine without anything in the bowl, once I pour my ingredients into the bowl, it wouldn't even mix the ingredients. Try all 3 gears.

Short answer: something is worn/broken inside the mixer's transmission.

Longer answer:

Since none of the three gears operate, the problem is most likely on either the worm gear shaft (probably the brass worm gear itself) or the "transmission shaft" (ironic name as all three shafts could be called transmission shafts). If you're up to the task of disassembling the transmission, which is a very messy task, you'd probably find the problem on one of the two smaller shafts inside the transmission. You'll most likely find either a broken key or worn brass worm gear. Both of these items may have enough holding strength to operate under very light loads (such as an empty bowl) but slip once a load is presented.
Also check the planetary key. Remove the planetary by removing two nuts on the underside of the transmission, where the attachments attach (careful, as the whole thing will drop once the second, thin nut is removed). You will find a long key on the shaft (or in the planetary gear, whichever one it sticks to). Make sure it's not broken, and re-attach the planetary.

Oil (or maybe broken down grease) leaking from the accessory hub of Hobart mixer.

You're right, it's broken down grease. The A200 doesn't have a rubber seal to prevent this from leaking, either. That's normally OK, when the grease in reasonable condition, but when it breaks down bad enough, you see what you're seeing. The grease needs to be changed which requires disassembly of the transmission. It's quite a job (and very messy) if you're not familiar with it, but if you're interested I know I've read (and may have written one) instructions on disassembling the transmission on this website. If you decide to do the job yourself, be sure to remove the attachment hub (comes out to the inside of the transmission) and clean the passage well.

Hobart A200 mixer 1st speed doesn't work 2nd and 3rd work fine

Could be that a gear is missing (broken) on the shaft that works the 1st gear. Check out the schematic at

http://www.food-equipment.com/parts_Hobart_mixers.htm

It could be the gear HM2-748

Hobart mixer A200 Rotation

Assuming the unit is 120v, single phase, my money is on a bad electronic start switch (not to be confused with the on/off switch) It's not visible without some disassembly. Usually, it is located at the rear of the motor cavity. Take note of all the info on your model data plate then go here to obtain a parts breakdown on your particular mixer. http://www.hobartservice.com/Parts/

I'd suggest replacing the capacitor as well.

My a-200 mixer works fine in 1st & 3rd very poorly or not at all in 2nd. Whats up and is there a easy fix.

Sounds like a key may be sheared on the transmission shaft. You will need to disassemble the transmission in order to repair. If your mechanically inclined i can step you through it.I'm a hobart tech and repair these mixers often.

Hobart A200

amy, depending on how old your mixer is there are 2 types of clutches for 1st gear.these could be your problems--a key is sheared on the shaft--shaft/gear is broken.the bottom part of the mixer where you put on the attachements is called the planetary, does it look like it has moved down?you could tell if the dough hook, wire whip, ect, ect is hitting the bottom of the bowl.if this is the case its just simply tightening the 2 nuts next to the beater shaft.if this is not the case you would have to dissasemble the transmission.let me know.
