Don't know how to connect to my home wifi

Connecting your Acer laptop to your home wireless network is fairly simple.
Before you begin you need to know the SSID broadcast name (Wi-Fi) network name and security passphrase (Wi-Fi network password).

Move the Wi-Fi switch to the "On" position.
Not all models have this switch.

Open the Windows Start menu and select "Connect To."
A list of available connections will appear.

Select "All" from the drop-down menu to view all available networks and connections within range.

Select the desired network and click "Connect."
Enter the security passphrase if prompted and click "Connect" again to join the network and gain wireless Internet access.

I performed a recovery on a vista machine and still can connect to wireless

I'd connect to your router/modem via the RJ-45 wired connection to gain internet access and then download the latest wi-fi driver for your laptop using this link under the software and driver downloads section. Choose from the available operating systems in the drop down box and then download either the Broadcom or Atheros wireless LAN installation files depending on what hardware is installed. If there's a wireless button/switch make sure that this is set to the on position and that your wireless router/modem is broadcasting your SSID.

My laptop frequently drops its wireless connection

Check the power saving settings, it's possible that your wireless card is going in power saving mode. This could be done through the operating system, or maybe in the BIOS.

Laptop drops signal but other doesnt

This issue generally occurs due to the outdated Wireless Driver.

Check for the Updated Wireless Driver for your Computer (in which signal is dropping) and install in the Computer to resolve the issue.

If the Updated Wireless Driver is not available then un-install the Wireless Driver and install it again to resolve the issue.

Connection drops and no available network

So you are using windows Vista and the wireless connection is dropping.
Do you have any other wireless computer which is working properly ?
If the other wireless is working properly then the problem is with the wireless adapter. Now you have already upgraded the drivers, then there is nothing much we can do.
If you do not have any other wireless laptop working wirelessly, then try to bring another wireless laptop in the network and check whether it works properly.
If you face the same problem on that computer also that means the router might be having problem

your wireless devices are not configure to the right value. Start the wireless network wizard in your desktop computer.(Start- Control Panel - Network and Internet Connections - Setup a wireless network for a home or small office) Follow the on-screen instructions. After finishing, run the wizard in the router and then run it in the devices that you want to connect to the network.
