Clean laser lens with canned air Then clean the rubber circular area off (part that disc fits onto) then try to see if it stops freezing &skipping.

On the back/bottom of the unit somewhere, there should be a label that says something similar to:
"Power: 9VDC 1300ma"
and there will be a little picture of the polarity of the plug.
If so, take your Unit to Rat Shack or local electronics repair store and ask them for a replacement power supply.
