Kenmore washer 110.29962891

The bottom of the agitator is about 3-4 inches above base of tub. Black plastic plugs (4) that snap in bottom of tub under agitator were worn off on bottom and had popped loose.

There is a ton of change in the bottom of my washer but I cannot get to it. Is there a way to remove the drum?

There shouldn't be any holes in your drum large enough to allow change to fall through into the plastic tub. Most likely the change is just lying under the agitator. It can be easily removed. Here's how:
1. Unplug the washer from the wall outlet
2. The cap on top of the agitator is just snapped on. Pry it up and off
3. Underneath the cap, there may or may not be a secondary cap w/ an o-ring. If it's there, remove it the same way. Just pull it straight up off.
4. There is a single bolt that holds the agitator on. You should be able to see it now. Remove it w/ a socket / long extension or a speed wrench. Don't quote me, but I think it's a 7/16" socket.
5. Once the bolt is removed, you can pull the agitator straight up and off.
6. Enjoy all of your new found wealth!
7. Reverse the steps above to reinstall the agitator- don't forget to plug it back in.

Good luck.

Trying to replace dog agits of kenmore washer, how do I remove upper part of agitator to put in new dogs.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If the bottom agitates and not the top, the problem is likely the 4 "agitator dogs" designed to allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

Look at the section on the Sears site for Agitator, basket and tub.

See the part "Dog, agitator "

Remove the fabric softener unit, lift the top agitator cap (use a screwdriver) and you should see a plastic part in the center of the top agitator with a 1/2" square drive. (I've used a 1/2" adapter for a 3/8" socket drive)

Remove the drive and lift off the top agitator. Turning it over you should see the 4 "dogs", replace these and the top agitator should turn in one direction only.

Replace the 1/2" drive, the cap and fabric softener unit and the top agitator should work.

Also see the following illustrated description of the above.

Can't remove agitator

Get 2 2x2 pieces of wood or 2 oak handles, 20 inches long. lay on on top of the other on the top of the washer. Loop a rope or ******** both sides of the agitator over one of the pieces of wood and tie it to the top piece of wood. Twist the top piece of wood slowly. As the 2 loops tighten up under the agitator the bottom piece holds the rope firmly across the top of machine. This save you from getting socked in the face by the agitator when it come off. You can buy an agitator remover but why not make you one and have so much fun doing it See the pic below? just ease a stick above the 2x4 and start slowly twing till she jumps out. Note: I didn't make this design I found it on line. I would run the rope under the agitator instead of taking a chance on breaking the fins. But that's just me.The trick is to grab it by the neck instead of the base. So try that before concocting a agitator remover. The agitator just snaps on. The drive block under the agitator is stripped out Wh43X10009 91c45a0.jpgis the part number. Here it the manual3c3b88a.jpg

How do I reassemble Kenmore model 110.29842991 Need a parts manue

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.29842991

See the Agitator and Tub section.

Basically lower the main agitator onto the transmission drive shaft. (Be sure that the two pronged "washer" and clip are on the shaft).

2. Screw the double threaded bolt (with a rubber washer on the bottom) into the agitator shaft

3. Carefully lower the top agitator onto the lower one and screw the 1/2" (probably plastic) bolt onto the double threaded bolt.

4. Put the cap on

5. Put the fabric softener unit on and push down on the locking ring.

Top-load agitator removal

The agitator on most Kenmore top loaders is a split design. The upper portion is called the auger, the bottom is the agitator. It comes apart by followng these simple steps:

1. Remove the center cap on the auger by either pulling straight up or gently placing a flat blade screwdriver into a slot located in the cap. Make sure you keep the gasket. This is used to create an air gap to keep water from leaking into the transmission, so make sure you seat it properly for a good seal when you reassemble.

2. If the auger is equipped with an inner cap underneath with a handle, remove this as well by pulling straight up.

3. Remove the center bolt of the agitator. You will have either a 7/16” hex bolt or a recessed square plastic nut. If you have the square recessed type, use a 3/8” to ½” ratchet adapter to remove.

4. With the center bolt removed, you can remove the entire assembly with the auger still attached to the top of the agitator, by grasping the bottom flange near the bottom of the tub and carefully pulling straight up. Try to keep all the parts assembled while doing this, so do not pull too hard. This will make this reassembly much easier.

If the agitator comes apart and you need assistance in how the parts go back together, refer to searspartsdirect.com for some helpful exploded view diagrams under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub" parts section.

If you have any questions, or if your agitator is different from what has been described, please post back with your complete model number (located on a nameplate around the wash tub opening) so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this helps you.

I have a Kenmore washer 80 series Model 11092582420 and the water is leaking out the bottom . how do I remove the adjitator . so I can repair the gasket

Are you sure its the tub seal? There are several things that can cause the washer to leak out from under the bottom as you described. The water pump can develop leaks and cause similar symptoms. Please check again to verify. If the leak is coming from the front area and leaking out from under the washer, it's usually the water pump, or drain hoses. If the leak is coming from under the tub and leaking out around the front and sides of the washer, its usually a tub seal. For better access, you can remove the washer case to check by following these steps:

1. Unplug washing machine.
2. Remove console. This can be accomplished in one of two ways depending on which type of console you have.
a. If the console has removable end caps, the caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the washer. The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front of the washer. There will be a screw under each end cap that you will need to remove.
b. If the console does not have removable end caps, you will need to slide a putty knife under the front corner of each side and push in while lifting up. There is a retaining clip under each side that has to be released.
3. Once the console has been released it will lift up and fold back over the back of the washer in its resting position. Use care not to stress the small plastic hinges that hold it on. They can break easily.
4. Under the console will be two large brass colored clips. Take a large flat blade screwdriver and place it in the groove of the clip on the washer top. With the screwdriver firmly in the groove, push away from you towards the back of the washer. This will release the clips.
5. Disconnect the lid switch connector plug. This is the white colored plug on the washer top under the console.
6. Remove the washer casing. Open the lid of the washer. Using one hand, grip under the front rim of the washer opening. Do not grab the wash tub, just the casing. Tilt the washer case from the back first towards you, slide forward slightly, and then lift up. The entire case comes off exposing the wash tub and components.

Look to the lower right-hand side of the wash tub and make sure the small plastic air hose is still attached to the air dome. If the hose has come loose, snip a small portion off the end and re-insert it on the air dome. These hoses can stretch over time and become loose.

If the hose is still intact, locate the water pump directly in the front of the washer. You will recognize it by the two drain hoses attached to it. These pumps can develop cracks over time and begin to leak. If this is the case, the pumps are not serviceable and must be replaced. Also check the drain hoses for rips or cracks and make sure the hose clamps are snug.

Last of all, check under the center portion of the washer tub. If the tub seal is bad, you will see water tracks dripping on the top of the gearcase.

To re-install the washer case, follow thse steps:

1. With the lid of the washer open, place grasp case under front rim and place it on the washer frame. While looking down through the washer lid opening, make sure the front lip of the case is placed UNDER the washer frame and rocked back onto the frame to ensure that the small cleats on the frame fit into the slotted grooves on the washer case base. If you do not get the case seated correctly it will rattle and vibrate while the washer is in operation.
2. Make the back of the washer fits into the washer casing on each side and reinsert the brass clips. Place the clip into the slot on the back of the washer first, and then forcefully push it into the opening on top of the washer. It will snap back into to place.
3. REINSTALL LID SWITCH CONNECTOR. It is easy to forget. If you do not reconnect it, the washer will not work correctly.
4. Reinstall console.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: If you still want to remove the agitator, simply remove the dispenser cap off the center post and remove the plastic cap underneath. There should be a 9/16 bolt underneath that you can loosen with a socket and ratchet. With the bolt removed, the agitator simply lifts off by grasping the bottom flanges and lifting up.

Washer wont agitate or spin

Check the Vibration damper rods to be sure that...
1. They are there and mount is solid.
2. If they are broken in 1/2.
3. The plastic knuckle mounts are not missing/broken.
4. There is oil in the shock absorber/spring section of the rods.

Also - there are suspension springs on the bottom of the tub that could be broken and/or missing.

Replace/repair as necessary.
