Question about IBM ThinkPad G40 2388 Notebook

2 Answers

Thinkpad will not open in regular mode.

My G40 only opens in Safe Mode ?

Someone told me it could be a hard drive problem.

Is there a quick fix for this, or do I need to go shopping for a new laptop ?

Not likely related to the hard drive, otherwise the Safe Mode also could not start since it does require some Windows support to start and that comes fro the drive.
You should be able to run the disk checking program:
Open 'My Computer' then right click on the C: drive, then Properties, then Tools, then 'Check Now'
More likely is that some of the support files for a normal start have been corrupted since Winndows has a tendency to commit Hari-Kari.
Check to see if you have had 'Restore' turned on and try to restore to a date before the problem appeared.

Problem opening Windows

Usually a sign of Hard drive problems, boot up in safe mode if you can.
Right click on C: drive, properties/tools/error check and let it do a full scan with automatically fix errors chosen.
You may want to back up as much as you can if you manage to get into safe mode

IBM G40 won't reboot

Unfortunately only few people know your problems solution but I'm happy that i can help you.

Its simply a problem of setting HDD ( Hard Disk Drive ) type which can be changed using BIOS setup. I hope your laptop must have SATA but if its not working on current settings then please change it to another options available.

Surely, your system will get booted after that and furthermore you can re-install your windows again...

Rate this solution if it was helpful to you.

I had to restart my IBM Laptop by shutting down the power manually.now it will not re-start windows even in Safe mode.im getting a ECC Error sectors 53072284 - 53072411 Hard Disk Drive any help would be...

Sounds like a corrupted or damaged hard drive, if u can get to dos instead of safe mode try running one of these to commands to do a hard drive sector check and repair:
chkntfs - dos hard drive check
scandisk - windows hard drive check

Even if these fix the hard drive problem depending on what sector was damaged u may still need to reinstall windows though

IBM T22 Thinkpad won't boot up - not even in safe mode

either you have a virus or a corrupted dll file.
eitherway, beside create a bootable CD or Floppy disk, and try to fix from there, thats' time a money.
the next best thing, is to reinsall the operating system.
the other option is get a new hard drive and install the operating system on that so you can preserve the data you have on the old one.

IBM Thinkpad

When you first start the machine, start pressing F8. It should go into safe mode. Safe mode looks different than the regular Windows mode, and there will be a screen with user account boxes, just like when you logged off in Windows. One box will have administrator, another will have whoever had the computer before, and there may be another with guest. Click on the administrator box, then open user accounts from the control panel. Then you can open the user account with the password and clear it. If you still can't get to safe mode let me know and we'll try a forceful way.

I would recommend you to boot your system and safe mode and do a system restore...To open your computer and safe mode hit the F8 button on your keyboad when the computer is booting up..click safe mode..and then once you get to safe mode its going to give you an option to restore your computer to another day..after the restore is finish, you should be able to use the computer without any problems...
