The Directv box should have at least two sets of out puts. You did not
say what receiver you have and if the dvd is a player only of a
recorder so its hard to say how to connect it.
If you have a dvd player only then take the output from the dvd player
and connect it to you tv's second input, HDMI or component or what ever
is a match between the two unites.
If you have a DVD-Recorder that you want to record programs from the
directv receiver then take the second output from the receiver and

your RCA jacks from the DVD player....should be connected to the Vizio a/v 1 in the back of TV (yellow to yellow, red & white to red & white)... now to view using the remote to TV switch to a/v (play a DVD, you should now have a picture and sound)
ok on the back of the dvd player look for the yellow red and white plugs you should have gotten a cable with yellow white and red plugs match the colors from the dvd player to the colors on the back of the tv labeled VIDEO 1 then plug the power in and tune the tv to video 1
If ** cable TV hookups exists, then the only inputs you can use are the line-in along with audio left/right. You've probably got a slew of output connections. Your unit does **t contain a tuner (which would allow you to use a cable input). You need to have a cable box or other device (vcr/tv) that has outputs compatible with the input of your dvd/vcr. A lot of dvd/vcrs are that way. It actually saves you some $$ since most cable boxes (especially HDTV compatible) already have the required outputs on them.
