Question about RCA CD Player/Clock Radio (RP5640)

1 Answer

RCA RP5640 CD player failure

The CD Player makes a mechanical snapping sound when the door is closed whether or not there is a cd in it. Same thing happens when you turn the player on manually. Of course no CD will play. Disc does not spin.

Contacted warantee address shown in instruction manual was referred to two different phone numbers. Thomson no longer supports this model. Responsibility seems to have been handed over to Vernurer Electronics 203 Eggert Road, Buffalo NY. but cannot find this company listed anywhere on the net. Any suggestions?

I like the clock radio, but I have bought two of them and in both of them the CD player stops working. What's the deal?

I too have recently found out that the cd portion of this radio was making strange noises. When i would press the open/close button, it would not open. I read your article and you mentioned you could not find the company mentioned. I did a reverse search on the address and came up with 5 different companies at the same address, neither of them being called "Vernurer Electronics" but other audio services. If you go to "whitepages.com" and click on the tab " reverse search" enter the address and you will see what i mean. I haven't found a solution to the cd door not opening but i'm still searching.

When I press "open" for the cd player to open on

Hi, if you know which way the door opens somtimes it is possible to gently slide the door in the direction it needs to go in. If not you may have to disassemble to reattach the rubber band that drives the door ( which is more than likely what the noise your hearing is.) I hope this provides some help. feel free to ask again for help disassembing, maybe provide model number and such. So good luck and thanks for asking FixYa. Prodzilla

I have the RCA stereo CD player/digital radio. Use the timed sleep button to play a cd and have it turn off automatically. All of a sudden, it doesn't work. It spins but doesn't play and I can't open...

Hi,

To start with, i would like to inform you that repair would not make any sense. The RCA alarm clock is easily available between $25 - $50 depending upon the model and the options. To take to a repair shop, he would charge around $25 - $50 to open it and then cost of parts and labor would be on top of this.

This seems to be a hardware failure ranging from problem in electronic circuitry to issues like lens problem. You could try to open the player.Clean the dust and dirt with a compressed can. Clean the lens with cotton. Assemble all the parts again. There is no point if purchasing the lens or any hardware stuff, as the cost of the part would be more than the part of the new machine.

I hope i have been helpful!!

Thank you!!

I have a RCA stero CD player/digitial radio. The CD player doesn't work. when it closes, it just clicks, but won't play a CD.

Replacing motor rubber band will fix this problem. Remove 5 external screws to have access inside the unit. TIP: You do not need to remove the front CD door. Good luck.

Cd player wont eject cd

Try this:

Starighten a paper clip and gently push it into the small hole situated usually just below the tray door until you feel some resistance: continue to push gently and the door should open slightly - enough for you to pull it open and reclaim your disk. Make sure the PC is turned off before you do this. You may then find also that the CD tray will co-operate again when you turn it back on.
