Pioneer VSX-D608 Optical connection

I have a Pioneer VSX-D608 receiver and can't find my manual for it. What I can't seem to figure out is what settings I need to use to get my XBOX 360 (or even my TV) to connect via the optical cable. I have plugged both devices into the receiver and pushed all the different buttons on the front panel and just can't seem to get any output through the speakers.

Yes I do have the remote. I was wondering about that and was looking at it this weekend. I was pushing all kinds of buttons, but had no idea what any of them did. Still couldn't get it to work.

Thanks in advance...Step by step would be extremely helpful.

Hi samz11, I have the same problem as ChadLV. I need to hook up an optical cable from my Playstation 3 to the Pioneer VSX-D608 reciever. I have the remote but not the manual, so if you could send me the instructions for hooking up the optical cable I would be gratefull.

    Thanks in advance

I'm experiencing the same problem with the optical input to the av receiver. No sound goes out of the box? So i just opted to install a co axial cable. Somebody told me that I won't get the same benefits with this.

The manual states that the default association of each digital input in as follows:

  • Optical 1: CD
  • Optical 2: MD
  • Optical 3: TV
  • Coax: DVD
Use the "Signal select" button to set the receiver to use a digital input, and the Dolby/DTS button (above "Signal select") to enable decoding.

As samz11 stated above, a remote is required to alter the digital input mapping.

Do you have the original remote for the receiver? You need the remote to set up the optical settings according to the manual there is a fair bit of things to do to set it up reply if you do have the remote then I will post up word for word on how to change the settings but without the remote you basically cant do much with it sorry

hope this helps

Hi, My kids pushed some buttons and I cannot get the sound back. Is there a way to fix it? Thank you. Tammy

Of course there is. No combination of button pushing will destroy the unit.

Open the manual and treat it like a new installation.

I turn on receiver Pioneer vsx d608, then few seconds later screen flashes "poweroff", then shuts off by itself

Check all speaker wiring for shorts. If nothing is found, unit obviously has circuit problems, have serviced.

When I had problems with my VSX-D608, I resorted to downloading the manual for VSX21. This model seems to have the same features in the ELITE form. It has helped me figure out some speaker problems.
