Sharp LC26D40U Blank screen

Hello,

I have a Sharp LC26D40U LCD TV that we bought July 2006.
When we switch it on the green light comes on and we get sound but no picture. Just a totally blank screen irrespective of channel / Input.

I heard that Sharp released a bulletin on this issue and wondered whether this is correct / whether there is any hope?

Thank you for any help that you can provide

Thanks Shinayo1 for your help - would this be the Sharp Back Light Inverter (VIT79005.51) or is it a different power Inverter?

Thanks again so much for any advice you can provide.

shinayo1 - Thank you so much!
I bought a Sharp Back Light Inverter (VIT79005.51) from shopjimmy on the web for $79.95 + shipping.

It arrived yesterday and I installed it last night and it Fixed the problem. Fantastic!

I had to remove the back and front cover, metal hardware that attaches to the back bracket area. Also had to disconnect a grounding wire where it attaches to the metal back bracket. Then I had to remove one speaker and also a small connector that powers the front power light. Then removed the main board and the big metal enclosure that the LCD Panel is in. Opened that by undoing the screws that are on the edges (not the ones on the front. You are then able to lift the front of the LCD metal enclosure away from the back plate of the Panel enclosure. That gave me access to the Inverter which is on the righthand side of that back plate. I had to twist the lcd panel around by 90 degrees to access the inverter (there are a whole bunch of wires that leave the center of the LCD Panel and connect to the center of the component board on the back plate of the enclosure. Switching the inverter was the easiest bit. A few very small phillips screws and then some plastic connectors to gently prise open.

The trickiest thing was remembering which screws went where - so each time I unscrewed one I would then stick it with sellotape to the place thet I removed it to ensure i remembered where I took it from.

Our LC26D40U/LC32D40U model Sharp Aquos goes on fine, but within a few minutes, the screen goes blank, sound stays on. We thought it was a problem with our satellite provider. However, after exhausting all avenues with regard to the satellite service, we took the TV to a local authorized Sharp repair shop. They told us we needed a new display that would cost $1,100.

This TV was a gift, so we are not out any money, but we certainly wouldn't buy a Sharp brand to replace it.

This comment is for those of you who are handy with a soldering iron. I had this problem and found the component on the backlight inverter board that failed. It is a tiny, 3-cent, surface-mount fuse; probably some type of poly-fuse or, perhaps, a thermal fuse. The fuse is black and about the size of an ant, and the marking on the pcb near it is "F1", while the marking on the fuse itself is "20". I removed the bad fuse with my soldering iron, but since I could not determine the exact replacement for the fuse, I decided to replace it with a small 1-Amp fast blow fuse by soldering the leads onto the 2 surface-mount pads. I figured that even if I could find the exact replacement for the fuse I wouldn't want to have to replace it again in a couple of years. You should be able find a suitible small pcb-mount fuse at an electronics store such as RadioShack for around $1. If not, there is always DigiKey on the web. Hope this helps you.

To be clear the inverter board for this TV is located between the screen and the back PCB. What I mean is you really have to take apart everything to get to the "inside" of the metal box. You will see a bunch of BLUE and PINK wires with connectors that plug into the inverter board. Also, you will see a black plastic / rubbery "cage" that is glued to the board. I had to remove this to find the fuse. However its pretty easy to get to when you know where to look. The fuse has a 20 on it like stevem314 said. However, its placement is almost directly "upstream" of the white ribbon connector. Just follow the connector leads up a bit and you will find it. To be clear the inverter board is high voltage. Caution should be observed when messing with it.

Sharp AQUOS LC-52D62U LCD TV

Sharp lcd screens are very easly damaged especially the larger screens, this could be at fault even though it looks ok,try shinning a light on the screen and checking every inch, could be the internal screen that has damage hence why not powering up.
Failing that it sounds like an internal short.
