I have the SimpleTech Pininfarina 320GB Hard Drive and was working great for a while. Then all of the suddent it just stoppped working. The light doesn't come on anymore on the unit. I've tried replugging everything in and the coputer doesnt even see it. What are my options to resolve this? And if it can't be fixed, what is a safe way to dispose of the unit to prevent potential identity theft? THanks!!

Hi Angela ,
You' re probably facing a power or usb issue . Consider opening the enclosure ( will be lost , i presume ) and placing the drive in an external usb box ( available in any computer store starting from 20 $ ) to be reconnected to your pc . If this doesn' t help , it means your device is dead . There then still is a small opportunity to recover the lost data by using a recovery software like Recuva ( free ) or TenorShare Recovery ( payable ) .
This should help you solving your issue .
Best regards ,
fanaudi .

If you loaded a driver for the Ext HDD with the old HDD, simply reload it or download off the net.

SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 320GB Power up problem

It could be that it's internal power supply burnt out,
in which case the drive itself could still be fine.

Try opening up the external case, and removing the drive.
Once you do, plug it in to your computer directly using its SATA cables, and see if that works.

Hope I helped,
Tom

Simpletech 320GB BOM No.: 96300-41001-012 is new has never worked

The original power supply is "SB2D-020-1HA SIMPLETECH AC ADAPTER 12V 1.5A FOR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE" . Just find a replacement with the correct size plug (center positive) that supplies 12v DC at 1.5amps (1500ma)
