My all in one HP2210 keeps on saying remove and check cartridge. I have done this and replaced the black cartridge with a new one and it still says the same thing. Help Please....

Hello everyone,

I am going to post this same message on all of the forums Ive found so far for the "remove and check cartridge error" Ive had for the last 10,000 years on my HP PSC 2210. After I refilled my black ink cartridge (56), I got this endless error. After trying everything from cleaning the heads, to new cartridges, to installing patches...I finally fixed it, and it was by doing nothing Ive read about so far, so I'll share. Please let me know if it works.


I read something about a sensor wire, maaaybe this has something to do with it...but quite simply: Instead of installing the cartridge using the spring loaded top latch to hold the cartridge in place, I just pushed the cartridge in (without touching the tab which 'catches' the top/back part of the cartridge and eventually loads the spring). I then pulled the latch over the cartridge and secured it in place (so the door can close and the cartridges can move back and forth). Error message finally went away...Now all I hear is the beautiful sound of printing. Let me know if this works or if you need clarification..I endlessly searched through forums as well...to no avail! good luck.

Remove the cartridges and check them. If faulty, replace them.

Are you sure you are using genuine HP print cartridges - I know my hp printer will not print with refilled cartridges. I have also checked this site - it may help you

HP printer all-in-one model2410xphotosnart keeps giving me the message to remove and check print cartridges which I have done and both are full. Will not stop blinking and when trying to print makes...


Welcome to Fixya

This means the the printer cannot determine which cartridge is causing the error. Make sure that you are using original HP cartridges.

Please see troubleshooting procedure below:
  1. Remove the color cartridge from the left stall (which has a blue latch) and refasten the latch. Leave the other cartridge in place.
  2. Close the printer, wait 10 to 15 seconds, then look at the LCD display.
    • If the LCD display reads Insert Color Cartridge in Left Stall , the color cartridge may be causing the problem. Follow the steps below:
      1. Clean the color cartridge contacts. Click here to see how.
      2. Reinsert the color cartridge into the carriage and close the blue latch.
      3. Close the printer and wait 10 to 15 seconds.
      4. If the LCD display reads Remove and Check Print Cartridges , replace the color cartridge.
    • If the LCD display reads Remove and Check Print Cartridges , follow the steps below:
      1. Reinsert the color cartridge.
      2. Remove the black or photo cartridge, depending on which one is installed in the right stall. The right stall has the gray latch. Be sure to refasten the latch on the empty stall.
      3. Clean the black or photo cartridge contacts.
      4. Reinsert the black or photo cartridge.
      5. Close the printer and wait 10 to 15 seconds.
      6. If the LCD display reads Remove and Check Print Cartridges , replace the black or photo cartridge.
  3. If replacing cartridges fails to correct the problem, click the link at the top of this page to contact HP.

How to change the ink cartridge



Checking the ink levels
  1. Open the HP Director .
  2. Click Settings , point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox .
  3. After the Printer Toolbox opens, click the Estimated Ink Level tab.
  4. For information on obtaining replacement cartridges, click Print Cartridge Ordering Information .
Replacing the print cartridges
  1. Make sure the HP all-in-one is on. WARNING: If the HP all-in-one is off when the print-carriage access door is lifted to access the print cartridges, the HP all-in-one will not release the cartridges for changing. Damage may occur to the HP all-in-one if the print cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove them.
  2. Open the print-carriage access door by lifting from the front center of the device, until the door locks into place. The print carriage is on the far right side of the HP all-in-one. c00228292.jpg 1 - Print carriage access door 2 - Print carriage
  3. When the print carriage is idle and silent, press down on the end of each cartridge to snap it out of the carriage. If replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left.   4. Gently pull the print cartridge toward you, out of its slot.
  5. If removing the black print cartridge to install the photo or gray photo print cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector.
  6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles.   7. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into place. If the print cartridge you are installing has a white triangle on its label, slide the print cartridge into the slot on the left. The label for the slot is green with a solid white triangle on it. If the print cartridge you are installing has a white square or a white pentagon on its label, slide the print cartridge into the slot on the right. ADJUST THE COLOR AND PRINT SPEED You may need to adjust the color and print speed. CHECK THE LEVEL OF INK IN THE PRINT CARTRIDGES 1 From the Finder desktop, double-click the Lexmark X5400 Series folder. 2 Double-click the Lexmark X5400 Series Utility icon. 3 From the Maintenance tab, check the ink levels of the cartridges. If an exclamation point (!) appears on a cartridge, the ink level is low. Install a new cartridge. Improving print quality These are possible solutions. Try one or more of the following: CHECK PAPER • Use the appropriate paper for the document. If you are printing photos or other high-quality images, for best results use Lexmark Photo Paper or Lexmark PerfectFinish Photo Paper. Do not use Lexmark Premium Photo Paper. Your print cartridges are not compatible with this type of paper. • Use a paper that is a heavier weight or bright white. CHECK PRINT CARTRIDGES If the document still does not have the print quality you want, follow these steps: 1 Align the print cartridges. For more information, see "Aligning print cartridges" on page. How to change cartridge


Step one: Prepare the print cartridge CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, minimize its exposure to direct light. Cover the print cartridge with a sheet of paper. Follow these steps to make sure the new print cartridge is ready to install into the product.
  1. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging. Gently rock the print cartridge from front to back to distribute the toner evenly. c00382111.gif CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, hold the print cartridge at each end.
  2. Pull the tab and remove all the tape from the print cartridge. Put the tab in the print cartridge box to return for recycling. c00382112.gif
Step two: Open the product
  1. Make sure you have turned the product on. Press the Power button if it is not lit.
  2. Open the print cartridge access door, and then wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  3. Remove the old print cartridge. See the recycling information inside the print cartridge box. c00382110.gif
    NOTE: If you cannot remove or install the cartridges even though the power is on, check the product control-panel display for error messages. If none appear, turn off the power and then turn it back on.
Step three: Replace the old print cartridge

remove your new color cartridge and make sure you have removed the safety tape on the botton of the cartridge.

Teardrop light is flashing yellow. Green clock at left is lighted. Control panel says everything is ready but it won't print. There is no paoper jam.


Hi there,

This light that is showing the Print Cartridge Status. Here is what you can do:

If the light is on and not flashing: Check to see if a print cartridge is low on ink. If a print cartridge is low on ink, consider replacing the print cartridge. If neither print cartridge is low on ink, press the Resume button. If the Print Cartridge Status light remains on, turn off, then turn on the printer.

If the light is on and flashing: Verify that the correct print cartridges are installed.

Follow these steps:
1. Open the printer's top cover, remove the black or photo print cartridge, then close the cover.
2. Do one of the following:
  • If the light is flashing: Open the top cover, replace the print cartridge you removed, then remove the tri-color print cartridge. Go to step 3.
  • If the light is off: There is a problem with the print cartridge you removed. Go to step 3.
3. Manually clean the print cartridge.
After cleaning the print cartridge, reinsert it into the printer. If the print cartridge status light continues to flash, replace the print cartridge.if the light is on and not flashing. Check to see if a print cartridge is low on ink. If a print cartridge is low on ink, consider replacing the print cartridge.

I need to change the cartridge on my HP LaserJet 1020, and I can't find the book detailing how to do it. All I need are the instructions................

    2. Turn off the unit by pressing the On button on the front panel. Wait for the printer to completely shut down.
    3. Turn the printer back on by pressing the On button.
    4. When the message display reads Insert Print Cartridges , open the access door and replace the cartridges.
    1. If neither of the steps above fixed the problem, either the cartridge or the printer is faulty
