Question about Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager

1 Answer

"Failed to initialize the sRGB engine" - ScanSnap won't work at all :(

Originally, I was able to successfully install all of the software bundled with ScanSnap. I absolutely fell in love with the machine. Then at some point I started getting an error message whenever I pressed the green "scan" button: "Failed to initialize the sRGB engine. Please reinstall ScanSnap manager." I have not been able to successfully use the ScanSnap since then. I have uninstalled and re-installed the 5 pieces of software that are bundled with the ScanSnap several times since then, but each time I get the same error message. I contacted the company and they gave me a "clean" utility for uninstalling ScanSnap manager, but that didn't make a difference. I also tried deleting the folders that get left behind after uninstallation as suggested by TMRI. I also went into the registry to delete the "PFU" settings. I am very discouraged -- I desperately want to get this machine worked otherwise it's a very expensive piece of junk. I would be very grateful for any help!

By the way, I have another scanner that is working fine. But I just noticed that when I go to Scanners in the Control Panel and go into the ScanSnap properties, it shows that the scanner is "unavailable" even when the USB is plugged in and the power is on.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using Windows XP Home SP2 (installed SP3 after the scanner stopped working). I have ScanSnap model S510 and I bought in in summer 2008.

Are you asking for the serial number of the ScanSnap?

  • flowmom Sep 25, 2008

After a lot of persistent bugging, Fujitsu Canada helped me to solve this problem. Under Settings|Control Panel|Scanners and Cameras, the ScanSnap S510 didn't have any Color Profile associated with it. The Fujitsu guy emailed me the "sRGB Color Space Profile" file and I copied it to the correct folder and selected it. Now everything works!! I have no idea why that file was missing.

There might be a software package that you need to install that you can probably get from the Fujistsu main site. You'll need the drivers for the scanner. I think i've located the correct ones here:

http://www.fujitsu.com/us/services/computing/peripherals/scanners/support/downloads.html

You'll want to download the proper package. The top one should include the S1300, just make sure you're downloading the correct one. Once downloaded, install, and it should properly function.

Scansnap hardware error 0x00048004

I had this exact same problem. Turned out that I was using the wrong power adapter. Enough power to turn on the scanner lights and connect to the computer, but not enough to actually perform a scan. As soon as I realized I was using the wrong power cord, I switched it up and voila!

OK; after giving up on lousy tech support I got it working after doing the following (not sure if all required, but this is what I did)
1. Gave admin rights to C:\Program Files (x86)\PFU
2. Updated to latest ScanSnap Manager V5.0 L21
3, Copied C:\Users\<admin acct>\AppData\Roaming\PFU directory to C:\Users\All Users

Good luck...

Problem installing Scansnap S510

This is probably due to the program using the same folder for the new version of the program. Best solution would be to uninstall the new version, uninstall the old version and then reinstall the newset version only.
Running a registry cleaner in between does not harm.

One other thing to try is an uninstall program, but I am not sure that will help.

"Failed to initialize the sRGB engine. Please reinstall ScanSnap Manager"

I managed to fix the issue by running a Command Prompt screen and typing the command: sfc /scannow. The system recognized that I had some corrupted files and it repaired them... After a reboot, my ScanSnap S500 is working again...

There should not be any problem installing that sofware on that OS and version. My guess is you have a botched (corrupted) install. Try uninstalling if you can otherwise let me know and we'll "clean out the registry." Good luck!
