Hi, yeah I did try the firmware when I was there the other day and that didnt work either. I dont know if this matters but it did ask me to make a copy of the firmware and I couldn't because the disk couldnt be recognized to copy it. Do I have to copy it or do you have any other suggestions? Thank You Very Much
Lets see let me diagnose your computer first, is it visible to my computer and what kind of operating system are you using, 2nd can you give me the link of the said firmware (the download page), 3rd go to properties of dvdRW and go to recording tab and make sure that the default burner is the dvdRW that ur using and make sure everything is checked inluding the one on the global settings, check device manager if theres a yellow exclamation point, If there is a yellow exclamation point and you cant see it on my computer then you need to delete something on your registry,

I think this might be due to the fact that your Operation System might have been corrupted. Try inserting your OS CD/DVD and install the OS.Before installing, you can either format your default Windows drive or keep files as it is.
When you open my computer do you see the drive in the window? If the drive does not show up in this window you can check two things, check to be sure that the cable connecting the drive to the mother board is good. And the other issue could be that the drive itself has gone bad. If it is unable to read any cd's then you probably need a new drive. Be sure to put in several cd's to be sure it is not the cd disk.
yeah all you have to do on this is on device manager and uninstall the drive....then go to actions and add new hardware...the drive should be back up in device manager or should say that the device installed properly...if it says the drive didn't install then you have a defective drive and it needs to be replaced....if you have a warranty call them as they will cover this issue.
You may want to do a firmware upgrade on the rom drive, a lot of times this can take care of reading/writing problems. If you can identify the model of rom drive I can point you in the right direction for the updated firmware.
two things. Firsly make sure that you are using the correct disks i.e if your drive is dvd-r then only use dvd-r disks, if its dvd+r then only use dvd+r disks if it is a multi drive then it won't matter what disks you use. Secondly don't format the disk first. If it asks you to format the disk click on the X to shut the pop up box. Only put the disk in when dvd maker asks for you to insert a disk.
if you have tried different dvd-r and dvd-rw discs, unfortunately it's a sign that your writer is failing to read the discs correctly, this normally happens when the writer is about to give up, although it may still write and read cd's but not dvd's
