The cold control needs replacing. Thats the knob with the numbers that turn the Ref OFF and ON.
What I do is call my local Appliance Parts Store with my model no. They are extremely helpful .
Get freezer and ref thermometer. Ref is probably too cold.
Freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees. Ref 33 to 35

Normally the auto defrost timer is placed close to the main compressor unit and all you need to look is a the back panel, move the fridge forward and check at the base section where the timer will be found. A quick check for the connection and the working can be confirmed if the stepper motor is not working to move forward. If so you need to replace.

FIRST WE YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE YOUR COMPRESSOR STILL GOOD OR NOT. THERE'S A 3-N-1 BOOSTER YOU CAN GET AT LOCAL APPLIANCE PARTS STORE. YOU CONNECT THAT TO COMPRESSOR AND IF IT RUNS GOOD. THEN YOU HAVE A BAD CONTROL BOARD(WHICH IS RIGHT THERE BEHIND THE METAL PLATE).

First this refrigerator has very low consumer rating. They are plagued with problems with very poor company backing. But without be able to diagnosis the problem in person I would say it's the mother board. And you may find that GE has a new updated board for your appliance. I would go to Amazon.com and search for your motherboard for your refrigerator and read the reviews. Some people leave some great idea. Plus it you bought this refrigerator brand new you can fight with GE to send you a new board.

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.
