Quick and dirty:

From the back of the RCA unit make sure you are using the auxiliary input jacks to connect to the output jacks on the TV.

You will need to go into the setup menu on your TV to select an external sound system and finally you'll need to select auxiliary on the RCA unit to hear the sound from your TV.

Hope this helps,

The Tinker

HOW DO YOU HOOK UP SURROUND SOUND TO TV

1. Does your TV has an Audio out? If it does then connect the audio out of your TV to the Audio In of your Home Theater system.

2. Are you using a Cable box? If you do then connect the audio out of your Cable box to the Audio In of your Home Theater system. Video out of your Cable box to Video In of your TV.

I cannot get the surround sound to come on tv mode on my friends RCA DLP. Any suggestions? is this a t.v. issue? DVDs and Ipod connections are fine.

The tv must have a stand alone audio output that you would connect the audio composite cables to going to the aux or audio input of the surround sound system. You may need to switch the surround sound system to aux mode or av input 1 or 2 and etc. If you are connecting a cable box or satellite tv box to this television instead of connecting the audio composite cables between it and the tv, connec them between it and the stereo surround sound system.

My surround sound will not work through the TV, only the DVD

If your tv and surround has an optical input/output.Then you can connect with an optical lead. This will then play the sound from whatever you are watching. You normaly select dig1 or input1 on the surround system.
