Stelios: there is no "linux" choice on the link you provide. thumbs down, looks like you haven't even tried dwonloading it, without mention to getting the device to work with the "driver" you suggest.

1-If you are presented with the command line after Linux boots, And after you login and end up at the command line prompt, you Type:
STARTX
The above command start up the GUI from the command line, and Get you in the Graphic GUI environment of Linux.
2-If you Linux computer start up with the GUI, and you are Taken to the desktop environment, there is a way to access the Linux command line.
From your desktop, you can go trough the startup menu and choose the " TERMINAL", and this will let you access the Command line. You will end you with a windows with the Command prompt from within the desktop.
In summary, accessing the command line interface or the GUI Can both be done on your Linux computer, weather your system is Setup to start with the Shell interface or the GUI.

The MP258 does not currently have any Linux drivers.

there is no driver for x5470 available under linux.
The driver detected by cups is 5000 series (previous model) not a x5000 series.

If you're connected to the network, and the printer is installed and shared from a server - which is the ideal way of doing it, then you should just have to go to the "add printer" wizard, select "network Printer", then browse your network for it, and connect. If it's not, then go to canon's website and download the driver's and install locally on your laptop using tcp/ip port and proper Ip address.

it'll be faster if you trash & re-intall
