McCulloch 11HP FG6000MK surging

I took the carb totally apart, totally cleaned jets and blew out with compressed air. Cleaned the gas filter, checked the diapham and all checks good. There is a small black filter(?) on the vacum line that lets air in slow to the diapham valve which I might replace next.

This unit was bought new after Katrina Sept '05 and ran for 2 weeks then. Always ran the gas out of carb and started several times a year. I ran it for Gustav for 3 days and it started surging the 4th day and got worst as time went on. I changed the plug nothing. If you hold the governor on the alternater at idle it runs fine. Once you let it go it goes to half speed and starts to surge every 10-15 seconds. Saturday I played around with the choke flapper and throttle by hand and it stopped surging and ran good. I started it again Sunday same surge and played with the choke and throttle again and it quit. I'm afraid this thing might fail when I need it most. By the way my unit is a FG6000MK a 11HP and the motor is a Wenling Jennfeng (read they bought McCulloch). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Bought new September 08, used several hours with good clean gas, Oil level full. Generator runs for about 20 min. and begins surging to the point it nearly dies out.

It sounds like the govener screw needs to be adjusted by turning it clockwise and then you may have to tweek the throttle screw. hopefully that will take care of it.

I just came across this post. Hopefully you have it solved. But for others who may run into this problem here is my advice. This model has a low oil sensing system. Over time the oil breaks down or gets contaminated. This can cause sympoms very akin to carb issues. I'd check this 1st as its the easiest fix. Drain and replace oil to the factory recommended specs. Make sure it is to the proper level. Your not finding any carb issues makes this almost a sure thing. DO NOT DISCONNECT or DISABLE the sensor or you defeat its purpose.

I have a psa 225 echo weed eater. The engine readily starts but will only rev up using the choke lever back and forth. No power. What's my problem?

Carb or filter
. replace fuel filter in tank while checking both pickup and return fuel lines.
remove carb and disassemble cleaning all parts with carb cleaner and some soft air blow . look for small screen its round and about 1/4 round in carb these are so small that the gas that's available gells and plugs the openings . try to use non-ethonal high octane gas and use echo 2cycle oil .

Briggs 19E412, the engine surges from full open throtle to closed, runs best when choke is paritally closed but still surges

comp air wont do it.. soak in carb cleaner to make sure all orifices are clear.. use fishing line to clear them out THEN comp air

Running rough. no gas going to front plug. Took carb off cleaned it . cleaned gas tank.put new gas in tank. all lines are clean and free. plug fireing but black and dry.

If your plug is dry, then there is no fuel. This can happen for two reasons: No compression - be sure to get a compression tester and ensure that there is enough compression produced by the engine to enable the engine to run. More than likely, though, there is no fuel getting to the engine. When cleaning carburetors, it is important that you use a chemical dip. Spraying carb cleaner through it is not enough. Be sure to disassemble completely: fuel float and its needle and seat, all jets, all emulsion tubes, all air cut off systems and accelerator pumps, all enrichment circuits (choke), vaccum slide and diaphragm, all air jets, and last but not least - the idle air/fuel screw. If this is the first time the carb has been taken apart you have to drill the cap to get to the screw. once everything is apart, soak all metal parts in the Berryman or equivalent chemical dip solution for at least several hours. After, run hot water, as hot as you can stand over all dipped components and blow out with compressed air. reassemble and enjoy.

CRAFTSMAN 42" kolher 15.5 hp. will start but have to leave the choke on or set it to idle.when running it surges. disconnect fuel line and crank it over and seams to be getting enough gas. but look at fuel...

Check the electric fuel solenoid make sure there is voltage to it when engine is running.This model may have 3 relays on the engine harness and one of them is tied into the fuel valve try switch relays.Also check connectors on ignition switch sometimes one terminal can get corroded and cause problems.Also check the plunger on it to be sure it is moving freely.Also the fuel filter is usually half full,there is almost always some air in it.

Engine not running

Your carb should have another jet. What you cleaned was the main jet in the center of the carb. There should be another jet called a pilot jet. Often it has a metal plug covering it up so the setting can not be changed at that point. Instead, they want you to change the setting with the pilot air screw. In each case, if you remove the screw, count the number of turns for removal and put the screw back the same number of turns.

The pilot jet controls the idle. It picks up gas from the float bowl then the gas gets metered by the jet and the air screw then passes through a circuit (drilled passageway), in the carb casing and comes out in the center of the carb close to the needle jet. You will need to get the jet and circuit cleaned.

My mcculloch Macpower pac 800E generator won't start. It had been stored for a long time.

The carb is dirty (varnished) from gas sitting in it. You will need to drain the carb and use carb cleaner to remove the old varnish left in it.

ther gas that was in the carb probably evaporated. you might tryt a little spray starter fluid in the spark plug hole or in the air intake of the carb, This might just get it running long enough to draw gas into the carb and get it self sustaining,
