Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

A colleague of mine had his hotmail account hacked and the password changed and the hackers sent out an email to his contacts requesting $ to get him out of a jam!...needless to say, he can't get into his account now and has 8 years of personal contacts that he can't get access to now! Searched the net for a contact number for hotmail but no luck and no replies from emails to their feedback forum! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks hotfudge@iinet.net.au

All I can think to do (Besides calling Microsoft who currently owns hotmail), is to tell hotmail that you password. If he has another e-mail address he may have put this information in when signing up for his hotmail account. If he tells hotmail he forgot his password, they should send it or a new password to his other e-mail account. If he did not provide them with another account I reccomend calling microsoft.

Tip

Be aware of hackers

I want to alert you all about hackers ready to hack email ids . Daily many email ids are hacked . Daily . In the same way , someone from New York hacked my Gmail account . Be aware of hackers .
To prevent hacking of your account , use the followig tips :

1. Insert your email id only in trusted website
This is to prevent hackers know your email id . It can be that the website in which you are entering your email id belongs to a hacker . If it is so , then your account password would be easily hacked . It is not that only Gmail account can be hacked . Anyone can very easily hack the password of any account , no matter it is a Gmail account or Yahoo or Hotmail or any other account . So it would be better and safe to enter your email id only on trusted websites .

2. Change your password at regular period of time
Changing the password can sometimes prevent your account from getting hacked . If a person anyhow gets your password and at that same time you can it , then the hacker would be unable to open your account . It can only happen only with some people .

3. Never neglect warnings and alerts
On Gmail , if a person with a different IP address logges in to your acount , then it shows a warning message on the empty space on the top . If any such warning message is shown , then instead of neglecting it , prform the following steps :
1. Click on the "Show info" link near the message .
2. Note down the IP address of the hacker and change the password or delete the account immediately . I reccommend you to delete the account .

4. Delete unneeded email account
If you have email accounts more than needed then delete those accounts . To see those steps , read my next tip on FixYa.com

If your account has been logged in by this IP address , then mail me to get information about it :
8.22.161.217

You can also get information about any IP address on Arin WHOIS Database Search website :

Hullo My Hotmail acc I tried too many times and caused this to appear on same page SIGN-IN IS BOCKED

Dear Frank Rogers,

Account temporarily blocked
To help protect your account from fraud or abuse, we might have temporarily blocked it because we noticed some unusual activity. We know having your account blocked is frustrating, but we can help you get it back easily in a few steps.

Unblock your account
To unblock your account go to https://account.live.com and sign in to your blocked account. You can enter a phone number to request a security code be sent to you via text message, or if your phone doesn\'t support texting, via an automated phone call.

After you enter the security code, you\'ll need to change your password to complete the unblocking process. Make sure you create a strong, unique password to help keep your account secure. You can use our password checker to test the strength of your new password before you use it.

Problems with the security code
The quickest way to get your account unblocked is online, by requesting and then entering a code. If you haven\'t tried unblocking your account online, we recommend you start there.

  • If you didn\'t receive your security code at the phone number you entered, try again or try a different number by clicking I don\'t have a code. You\'ll be presented with another opportunity to request a code.

If you\'re requesting a text, use a phone number that accepts text messages.

If your code doesn\'t work, make sure you enter the numbers in the body of the message, and not the numbers in the header.

My account is still blocked
If you can\'t unblock your account with the security code and changing your password, customer support can still help you get your account back. To contact customer support, you\'ll need to sign in to your account, and fill out an online form. Provide as much information as you can to help us verify your identity. We take your account security seriously and need these details to help us prevent hackers from accessing your account. You\'ll need to provide an alternate email address where a Microsoft customer service representative will contact you within 24 hours.

Once you\'ve gotten your account unblocked, you can get more info on how to help protect your account

My account has been hacked
If your account has been compromised (hacked) it means that someone stole your password and might be using your account to access your personal information or send junk email.

How did a hacker get my password?

Hackers use several techniques to get your account password.

  • Malware: If you install a program from the Internet that isn\'t from a trusted publisher, it might include malware that logs your keystrokes or searches your PC for saved passwords.

  • Attacking Internet sites: If hackers break into an Internet site and steal account info, they can check it against other sites to see if you\'ve re-used your password.

  • Phishing: Hackers often trick people into sending them their account data.

How can I recover my account?

To recover your account, follow these steps.

1. Clear your PC of viruses or malware before you change your password

Most hackers get your password through malware that\'s been installed on your PC without your knowledge (for example, when you download a new screen saver, toolbar, or other software from an untrustworthy source.) It\'s important to clear your PC of viruses or malware before you change your password. That way, the hackers won\'t get your new password.

If you have a good antivirus program installed, make sure it is up-to-date, then do a full scan of your system. If you don\'t have an antivirus app installed on your PC, Microsoft offers some free solutions.

  • If you\'re running Windows 7, you can download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.

  • If you\'re running Windows 8.1, you already have Windows Defender. To turn it on, from the Start screen or Search charm search for "Windows Defender" and tap or click Windows Defender, then follow the instructions on the screen.

Regardless of which antivirus app you install, run a full scan on your PC before you change your password. You should also set up your antivirus app to automatically get updates and to scan your PC on a regular basis.

2. Change or reset your password

After you run the antivirus app, try to sign in to your account and change your password. If you can\'t sign in, try to reset your password.

Make sure you create a strong password

Don\'t

Do

Don\'t use the same password for different accounts.

Do make the new password significantly different from previous passwords.

Don\'t recycle passwords.

Do change your password regularly.

Don\'t use a single word for your password.

Do use a password phrase (no spaces between words) that can\'t be easily guessed.

Don\'t use easy-to-remember personal info like your name, names of family members, your address, or phone number.

Do use an easy-to-remember sentence or phrase converted into a string of initials, numbers, and symbols.

Don\'t use passwords like "password," "money$$$," or "12345678."

Do use our password checker to test your new password before you use it.

3. Reset your account settings

Since someone else had access to your account, we\'ve cleared your account settings and removed any send-as addresses, email forwarding, and auto-replies. Here\'s how to reset these options.

  1. Click the Options icon 978d981c-a380-4f87-aa7b-f85c072a788a_34.jpg, and then click Options.

  2. Select one or more of the following settings.Send/receive accounts: Under Managing your account, click Your email accounts.

Reply-to address: Under Writing email, click Reply-to address.

Email forwarding: Under Managing your account, click Email forwarding.

Auto-reply: Under Managing your account, click Sending automated vacation replies.

  3. Enter the required info and then click Save.

4. Restore deleted email and contacts

As soon as we detect that your account might have been hacked, we start saving your deleted messages in a safe place. In Outlook.com, click the Deleted folder. At the bottom of the window, click recover deleted messages.

Outlook.com will recover as many messages as possible and put them in your Deleted folder. Any messages not recovered are permanently lost.

If contacts have been deleted, you might be able to restore them. See Restore deleted contacts.

Note

  • Email deleted from children\'s accounts can\'t be restored. This way, parents can be confident that when they delete messages from their children\'s accounts, they stay deleted.

5. Help prevent future hacks

My Skype account is account block

Finding out that your Skype account has been hacked can be a nasty shock. It means that you lose access to your contacts, at least temporarily. This can potentially mean that you cannot get in touch with certain people. Furthermore, a hacked account may mean that the hacker is using your Skype credit or even your PayPal money to place calls of his own.

Change Your Password Changing your Skype password, if you can, helps limit the hacker's access to your account. With any luck, the hacker has only changed your password and not also the email address associated with your Skype account. Visit Skype's "Create an Account or Sign In" page and click the "Forgotten your password?" link. https://login.skype.com/account/login-form?intcmp=sign-in&return_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.skype.com%2Faccount%2Flogin Provide the email address associated with your account in the box that appears for the purpose, and then click "Get password." Visit the inbox for the account you provided. You should have an email from Skype. Click the link within this email to reset your password. b> Reporting the Issue b> Let Skype know about the fact that your account has been compromised. Do this regardless of whether you were successfully able to regain access to your account by resetting the password. Submit a support request on Skype's "Identity theft/Account takeover" topic by visiting the associated help page. Click the blue "Continue support request" button at the bottom of the page. Choose the "Email support" option, and then fill out the required information. This includes your full name, your Skype name and a specific description of your issue. You may also need to provide the email address you used when you initially created the Skype account, even if you changed the address associated with the account later. Safety Precautions b> Take some safety precautions to stop the situation from getting any worse. If your Skype account is linked to your PayPal account, for example, contact PayPal immediately. Inform them of possible fraudulent charges and to ask them to refuse any further Skype charges. If you use your hacked Skype password for other accounts, such as online banking or email, change those passwords to prevent the hacker from gaining access to those accounts. b> Avoiding a Recurrance b> Having your Skype account hacked once is probably more than enough for your taste. Don't let it happen again. Create a strong password when you regain access to your Skype account. Include letters, numbers and punctuation in this password to make it harder to figure out. In the future, if you receive emails that appear to be from Skype and ask you to sign in or provide your password, do not do so. Instead, go directly to the Skype website and sign in to your account there. Be careful when signing in to your Skype account in a public place, as someone may watch over your shoulder and figure out your password. Hope it helps.

How to rehack my email account after its been hacked

I'm sorry but you won't be able to re-hack your account to take it back. What you'll have to do is contact Yahoo and try to talk to a real person. From there explain your situation and see how things go. If nothing can be done from there then I'm sorry but your stuff is gone. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us though.

I have had emails sent from my address (not from me). It was suggested tht the only way to prevent this is to change my email address. I don't know how to do that. Any help is appreciated as the emails...

Most email providers like gmail, hotmail etc won't let you change your email address other then making a new account. Reading your question your email account has been hacked.. Best thing to do is change your password to keep them out.. Make sure you use a strong password ...
Use upper/lower case letters and numbers ... Example: SolUtiOnsTodAY20120 ... That would be very hard for hacks to get in with that password
