You'll need to create a security key. You can use either a WEP key or any WPA key. This will be required by the router before any computer can connect to it

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Can't get Internet to work with router tried to change name and password but nothing went right

The router should have a password to protect it from outsiders.

Open control panel on your computer
Go to Network or "connect to a network
When it tries to connect it should ask for user name & password
Use the original user name/password that came with your router.
When that is working correctly then go to router settings and change name and password.

Not secured

Log on to your wireless router and set a password. Look up the user manual to know how to connect to the user interface through your browser (webGUI) and what the default username and password combination is (if you haven't changed this).

Is there a limit to the number of login attempts that can be made or can hackers make continuous attempts until they get in?

There is no limit to the number of login attempts, as far as I know, but there are ways to block hackers outside of your network...

You can use MAC Filters (Media Access Control) to allow LAN (Local Area Network) computers by their MAC addresses access to the Network (p. 44 in the user manual).

You can also use the built-in Firewall Settings for protection from the outside world (p. 45 in the user manual).

There is also an Access Control Wizard (p. 40 in the user manual).

Here is the PDF link to the User Manual:

Securing router from outside user.

Set wireless security to one of the options available. Also, set the router system ID, and change router login password, (record it somewhere, like on the actual router) change the wireless channel to 11 to avoid conflict with landline wireless handsets.
There are higher security settings, but wireless access password is pretty effective.

Network link down

You need to log into the router and make sure that NAT is enabled. Nat allows simultaneous connections to the internet while using only one outside Ip address. Actually the correct term is Overloaded Nat, or Pat, but commonly on D-link routers this is called NAT. Start there and let me know what happens.

D-Link Wireless ADSL Router - DSL 604+

You will need to set up a WEP key so that only computers that know the key can get onto your router. Use your manual to help you set that up.
