My spacemaker appears to be running when the door opens. When the door is closed and no cook time selected it's fine. However when you open the door the fan begins to run. It has never done this in the past and is there anyway to tell if the micro way is actually active or the fan is just running.

Re: GE Spacemaker xl1800
A simple test is to place a piece of bread in the microwave ( it heats up very fast) and then if your microwave was actually ON and generating RF, the bread would get hot very fast.. If it remains cool then only the fan is on. It appears that you may have a faulty door switch thou because once you open the door, your microwave should be off..
Are you sure the VENT is not on? That blower will operate regardless of the door open or closed so you must switch it OFF.

if you have a sensor, it means, the door was opened before steam could be detected.
Do not open the door until stream is sensed and time is shown counting
down on the display.
Steam was not detected in the maximum amount of time.
Use Time Cook to heat for more time. The
first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.
This happens because of a bad door switch . The plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door .
Check also the turntable . It could be out of it's right place .
1:Don't slam your microwave door because this may cause the fuse to blow and this is the reason of bad door switch problem . 2: A microwave is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock even when it's unplugged , so I recommend you to call a repair technician for help .

Check the door switches .
Do you open the door when the oven is running? If you do, the contacts in the little switch arc and burn. As they burn, eventually, they will not close. The circuit is then not complete and the oven thinks the door is open. When this happens, the oven will not turn on the magnatron. When this happens, no heat.
Do not touch the silver can in the back, oven plugged in or not. It potentially retains lethal levels of electricity. Definitely unplug before you remove the cover. Screws on the back and probably on the sides at the bottom. Make sure you reinstrall the cover properly and use all the screws.
I hope you find this resonse will help you solve your problem
very possible your magnatron is faulty. Disconnect 2 transformer wires and make sure they dont short. try the program again. if no noise, replace magnatron:capacitor and HV diode Please i strongly suggest an electrician help you as it is truely dangerous in there. .
