Tryright clicking on my computer and selecting map network drive.(You'll get thesame results by right clicking on network neighborhood icon on your desktop andselecting map network drive.)This is the method many people use to assign adrive name (i.e.,letter) to a drive.
How about asking you to format it before you can use it?Then you can recover datafrom hard drive
withdata recovery software like Tenorshare DataRecovery. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look forlost data.

I have two dead (power supply) PC laptops that I would like to recover some music and pictures from. What is the most economical way to do this now that I have a macbook pro?

When you put the hard drives into an USB hard drive adapter case you cannot boot up the laptops using the external USB hard drive unless the laptop's BIOS has the option to allow the USB device as a boot device.
You can plug the external USB hard drive into any PC/laptop to copy files from the USB hard drive to the PC/laptop.
The MAC cannot read or write to the external USB hard drive unless the hard drive had been formatted in FAT32. There is no way a MAC can read a NTFS formatted hard drive and it will want to format the hard drive.

We have been using a 2 TB Samsung G3 Station External Hard Drive to connect to the TV through a laptop. One day it was working next day no power seems to be going through it. The light doesn't come on...

Assuming you don't hear any activity it might be the power supply that has died. Check if it's under any warrant.. if not you can always rescue the hard drive by taking it out of the enclosure and plugging it into your PC. Odds are it's a SATA drive. Either way.. taking it out of the enclosure will rule out of it's the hard drive or the components. Good luck.

Samsung LA40C530 LCD USB limit

I have tested the LA40C530 Samsung with a 300GB external hard disk and it works well without any issue. My guess is that it should support 500GB as well. I have played video/music/pictures on my WD 300GB HDD.

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked. I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

Hello my 320 gb external hard drive used to be read by my pc but now my pc will not read it what do i need to do to get my pc to read it?

First of all ensure that the drive itself is not broken (it happens). Try reading it directly, on another computer, then by attaching it to an external powered USB hub which should supply more power than an ordinary USB port.
You can use a tool such as Paragon Partition Explorer to verify that the disk is indeed readable, albeit possibly damaged at a logical, not hardware, level.

As a last resort you may try extracting the hard drive from the Pininfarina enclosure and connect it to an EIDE or SATA interface, as appropriate, on a motherboard. This is best done by a computer knowledgeable person.

If the drive isn't "seen" in any way or makes whirry or clickety noises, it is likely damaged and requires expert maintenance or a data recovery service.

It wont pick up on my hp computer it was my friend and he had in his mac computer

If the hard drive was formatted on the MAC then the hard drive need to be reformatted using the Windows. If you format as a primary drive in FAT32 then the MAC can read and download files on this external drive so that a Windows PC or laptop can read. These files can be exchanged between MACs and PCs.

USB hard drive not recognized by Mac and by PC

Does the external drive work when connected to some _other_ computer? (Friend? Office? Home?)

It could be a failure either in the "hardware" inside the external-case (the USB adapter & interface)
or in the disk-drive "inside" the external-case.

So, a qualified technician can open the external drive, remove the disk-drive, and connect it directly to a computer, to see if the files can be "directly" read from the disk-drive.

If not, then you should search online for a "data recovery" service -- they are expensive, but they physically repair a damaged disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your data to another disk-drive.

Windows xp to vista external HD transfer problem?

It is exactly right... YOU are not 'in control' of the hard drive and your buddy's computer doesnt have the 'permissions' to work with YOUR files...

It MAY be possible to get the okay if he logs into his computer as the administrator.... it is NOT an actual 'hardware' issue... being able to see the files says that... XP and vista are 'close enuf' design-wise that drive compatability isnt it either...

If your friend can log in as 'administrator' he will likely be able to take 'ownership' of the files on your 'external' drive and get what you need!
