What processor would be a good upgrade for my pc ? i have a GeForce 8600 graphics card installed

Try entering this command "bcdedit /set CONFIGACCESSPOLICY DISALLOWMMCONFIG". If it doesn't help, you can reverse the change with this command: "bcdedit /set CONFIGACCESSPOLICY default"

If your 8600 GT has been around for too long, you might need a new one.

Upgrading video cards will definitely increase in performance. You asked whether you should upgrade your entire PC or just the card and that really depends on the hardware you are running. If all of your hardware just barely meets the requirements than upgrading the videocard WILL give you a noticeable improvement but obviously it will not be as good as getting a better CPU and more RAM as well as a new card.

A good measure of a cards performance is based on the series of cards it is from. Your Geforce is from the 6000 series of Nvidia cards, they have 7000, 8000, and even 9000 series cards atm.

I would recommend something like an XFX Geforce 9800 GTX+ series card with 512MB of onboard memory, or any other competing card in the 200$ price range. This will definitely give you an increase in performance, and is a very popular card.

The XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI Express card uses two DVI ports on the back of the card. Display is most likely coming from the second port. Try moving your monitor cable to the next DVI port. You can do this while your system is running.
If you still do not receive display, post that here & we'll go over some other possibilities.

You can get this card right now on e-bay for $53 including shipping. Not htr fastest but much,much better,I believe.
