Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My mom bought a 2wire 2701hg-b Modem/Router in January 2008. We got it set up, and it was fine until about about last month or so. The other day, the connection transferred us to a installer. We already done that, and we are confused as to why it decided to do that.

Well my friend it could be that the router lost power instantly and decided to reset itself.

so all you need to do:
reset the router by clicking on the reset button in the back of the router.
and then go with the setup one more time.

that should be it

cheers.

I have a 2wire 2701hg-b router....I can connect to the internt through wifi on my laptop but when I try to connect through ethernet on my desktop it says it accuirring signal. I tried to reinstall the...

First look in device manager and verify that the network adapter is enabled, if so you can try disabling it then shut down and reboot the PC.
Once booted, go back into device manager and enable the network adapter.
Run the software that came with your router and follow the steps provided.
Make sure your network cable from your router is NOT connected untill instructed to do so.
You will need to have the network cable from your modem connected to your PC for the router software to detect network connection.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
Have a nice day.

Cable and wireless question

Not possible, since the "input" to the 2WIRE modem is a 4-wire telephone-line, not an 8-wire Ethernet cable.

Instead, spend about $40 to buy a D-Link Wireless G modem, and connect its WAN port to the cable-modem, and connect up to 4 Ethernet cables to "wired" computers, and configure the "wireless" component of the D-Link router.
